My father, a skilled C&J used to make long case clocks as a means of keeping his hand in and his mind active when he retired. He would sell such just for the cost of materials. They made from Ply veneered Chipboard and some hardwood parts with electric movements - that cost in the early '80's around £75 mainly depending on the movement, those with chimes costing £10 to £12.
Could he sell them? No!
We used to get one of two principle comments, they're cheap so can't be any good; Or they're very nice but too expensive!
He must have made 15 of which I think he sold 2 or 3 to friends, he gave 4 away the rest we still have.
Selling such items privately or at craft events may not even allow you to make a living or barely covers your costs at best unless you can find a niche product that is both cheap on material cost and quick to make.
