    Most insane tool ever?

Whats the most insane tool you've ever come across? My vote goes to this 'compact' Swiss Army Knife which would slip comfortably into any convenient pocket: 87 Implements / 141 Functions. Its not a LeeValley-esque April Fools joke - a snip at £489 from Amazon if anyone is interested :lol...

Wanted no more band saw picked up today - pics

Does anyone have the one that Rob linked to? (Axminster AWHBS450N) I'd be very interested to hear any opinions on it (and to see some photos - not much to go on from the Axminster site!) Cheers, Neil

    Advice on Machine Purchase

Hi Dave, I have a Jet 54A and a Makita 2012NB thicknesser and would recommend both. The separates/combi decision involves compromises either way - yes, it can be annoying having only 6" width on the planer, but on most combis the beds are too short and the fence is aluminium. The Jet combi...

    Bosch GSR10.8V-LI-2 drill/driver - anyone got one?

Thanks for that - I checked out the driver and it looks very nice, but I need something ASAP so I can't afford to wait for the drill version. Seems like everyone is bringing out these small, low voltage drivers! Cheers, Neil

    Bosch GSR10.8V-LI-2 drill/driver - anyone got one?

Thanks for all the advice. I do occasionally use a corded drill for pocket holes, but find it a bit of a PITA unless I've got loads to do. I guess I'm not doing as much as you guys, though! Glad to hear that it is as well liked as the driver, and happy to hear that it compares well to the...

    Bosch GSR10.8V-LI-2 drill/driver - anyone got one?

Does anyone have the little Bosch 10.8V drill/driver? I'd be interested to hear your comments if you have one. I'm in need of a drill following the demise of the Ni-Cd batteries on my 14V Makita and this is one of the options. I have the driver that takes the same batteries which is...

    Startrite 352S Bandsaw motor conversion

The reasonable price wasn't £257 by any chance? If its the one I'm thinking of, I had my eye on it too. It went a bit high for me as I have £130 shipping to consider on top of the re-motoring, but you got a nice bargain. See this thread for help on re-motoring, where you'll find a link...

My first attempt at carving (finished, in situ)

The house is the the West of Ireland, so the thatch doesn't get the chance to dry out much! I bet you'll get twice the life expectancy out of yours in Essex - you don't have any rain there, do you? Cheers, Neil

My first attempt at carving (finished, in situ)

Beautiful work, Mike =D> How long ago was the thatching done? Less than ten years at a guess? Is there much of a loading on the insurance? I used to have this house: Must admit I miss the thatch, its a wonderful roofing material. Cheers, Neil

Advice on AEG cordless kit deal

Thanks, Chris - good advice. Because its in the local tool shop I'll get a chance to handle everything before making a decision (if they ever get any back in stock!) so I can check for good balance etc. Cheers, Neil

Advice on AEG cordless kit deal

I found a useful video review by GWW of the kit here. Seems pretty good - the circular saw cut through 18mm MDF looked a bit laboured but I don't have any experience of cordless circular saws so maybe it is fairly typical. Cheers, Neil

Advice on AEG cordless kit deal

Thats interesting, Pooka - I must admit that I've been through plenty of Li laptop batteries over the years so they are not ideal either - although I wonder if the charging is rather more 'intelligent' with decent power tools. One thing I've noticed with my Bosch lithium screwdriver is that the...

Advice on AEG cordless kit deal

Thanks, Gidon - is your Dewalt NiCd? How much use do you get out of a charge of the battery? Its definitely the whole lot in the kit - looking around at ebay etc. I can find the same deal for about £250, but considering that in rip-off Ireland you can pay this sort of money for a 12V Makita...

Advice on AEG cordless kit deal

Hi everyone, I was in my local tool shop at the weekend and saw a flier with a deal that looked too good to be true. It was this kit: for €175+VAT (about £187 inc VAT). Contents are: BSB18STX Combi Drill BKS18 Circular Saw BUS18X Sabre Saw BST18 Jigsaw FL18 Torch 2 x 18 volt 2.0 Ah NiCd...

Anyone Up For a SketchUp Challenge?

Dave, I made 2 components - the leg & the rail. More out of habit than anything else! I left the component names as the defaults for speed. The first time around, I just drew the leg with the line tool. The second attempt I did the following: - Drew a 1"x1" square at the origin -...

Anyone Up For a SketchUp Challenge?

I thought of a quicker way to draw the legs and that brought the time down to 1:51 - so now I'm convinced that you can go under a minute, Dave! Cheers, Neil
