    Another 'fixings' question

Hi All, I have another fixings question. I'm looking for a fixing the will securely attach two pieces of wood but allow them to pivot on the fixing. Something like the fixing on the frame of a wooden parasol, which when put up/down allow the two arms to pivot on the rivet type fixing! If anyone...

    Cyclone Flat Pack Kit

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to keep an out for a 3 hp blower. Although I'm on single phase so will need a single phase motor, so I would imagine anything bigger than 3hp will be hard to find. Shame you won't be over for a while Bob, but at the rate I'm progressing with my workshop the...

    Cyclone Flat Pack Kit

I was interested anyway, but now I'm very interested!! =D> As I have a large barn that I work in I will need the 150mm version, but what size (hp) extractor will I need to accompany that? I may also consider a smaller vac version as well, bearing in mind what you said. My biggest worry is...

    shellac and waterbase stain

Hi Whizzo and welcome to thee forum. I've been looking into related areas of this lately and am pretty sure you use the sanding sealer before the stain, which fills the pores of the wood (particularly important when using soft wood) and helps get an even colour from the stain. Whether it cures...

    How much Shellac?

Hi Jim, thanks for the response. As I previously had no response I went ahead and made a batch, just guessing the amounts. It appears I have greatly underestimated how much I need (homer) I made a batch of 60g shellac and 240ml meths! I'll go back to the workshop and make some more! Once again...

    How much Shellac?

Hi everyone, I'm going to make Shellac myself for the first and want to know how much I need to mix to cover 6-7m2? I intend to make a cut of 6:1 of dewaxed blonde flakes for the sealer and 4:1 garnet flakes for the main course. Followed by a spray lacquer for extra protection. So the...

    Dust (Again)

I'm also having dust extraction problems and have been reading up and surfing the net for advice. The conclusion I came to (not least of all because of Bill Pentz!) was that the only real solution was a cyclone, with a lot of power and large diameter pipes. Yet noone has even breeched the...

Tram lines from bearing router bits

I do take more than 1 pass when appropriate, but the last pass still marks because I do put pressure on the router to keep it from 'jumping'.

Tram lines from bearing router bits

Thanks Stew, I'll try that next time.

Tram lines from bearing router bits

They're brand new cutters from Wealdons. Clean as a whistle. And it's not a one off, it's regular with soft wood.

Tram lines from bearing router bits

Hi everyone, Has anyone else had the promblem of the bearing on a router cutter indenting 'tram lines' in the wood? Does anyone know how to avoid this annoying problem? Perhaps it's my heavyhanded technique

Dust Extraction for my new workshop.

Google Bill Pentz. It will scare you to death and confuse you but there's lots of info about dust extraction and in particular 'Cyclones' which seems to be the only way to go to get healthy air! There's a thread (Chems) running at the moment on cyclones which may also help...

    Cyclone Flat Pack Kit

Hi Everyone. Having spent hours on the net (a couple of hours on Bill Pentz site alone!) looking into cyclones I now understand the principles of separation, but what I don’t understand is the ‘simple stuff’ – like where is the ‘dirty air’ sucked in from? From the machines directly or from the...

    Tips and Wrinkles

Ok - today I was making some newel posts for outdoor decking. A couple of the posts had some unsightly splits in them. So I sanded the posts and then filled the splits with glue. Then I took the sawdust from the sanding and sprinkled it on the glue, then lightly rubbed it in. Tomorrow I will...
