The longer, the better, if you can afford it... Particularly on something over 2m long. I doubt the low angle plane would be of much benefit on oak, unless the grain's changing direction. But, for future use, there are many other timbers (even something like ash) where the grain can be...
I think that was Clive Tyldsley. Though, I don't think much of Andy Townsend either, who was sat next to him that night!! :P
ITV seem to have come in to a bit of money, in the last couple of years - yet, they can't bring in a half-decent commentator or punditry team! :x By bringing Adrian...
I completely agree!
This is one the many reasons I stopped reading newspapers four-years ago (should've stopped much sooner :P). Any talk of replacing Green with James for the next game is complete b******s - let's go back twelve-years... Would David "Calamity" James have been a contender for...
Lons,
Thanks for your reply. :)
I wasn't looking to draw up an argument or insult anyone - you have me confused with a regular poster from WWUK! :-D I do apologise if you see my message in any other way. I agree with the sentiments in your final paragraph so, I'll try to keep this brief... :)...
First thing I'd do is to find out whether that green Multico machine comes with a bridge guard (clearly, no pictured!). If it is "missing", that's another expense you'll have to consider.
Are you doing this as a hobby or looking to start a small business? If it's the latter, you'll need...
He's clearly been watching too much of Norm! :D
I like the coke bottle-adaptor he's made to connect his vacuum to the thicknesser - and, it appears to work very efficiently (it looks a lot better than the AW106PT, I can say that much... :P)!
Good to see someone so young getting so involved...
That's a fair comment on Milner. I just meant that he's far better suited to that role than Gerrard :P - and Wright-Phillips, based on tonight's performance! :D
Of all, the managers we've had since Glenn Hoddle was sacked, Capello is the only one I've had any faith in - and I'm quite the...
Well, at least he's put a proper winger on the left-hand side, rather than putting Gerrard there, simply to accommodate him - which, surely, suggests that most England managers have rated Lampard more than Gerrard?! :D
That still leaves us without a defensive/holding midfield player and the USA...
I was going to suggest something very similar to Karl's idea... Except, replace the hand plane with a router and bearing-guided cutter!!
If the MDF sheet is cut parallel, to the finished size and with clean edges, you could effectively "thickness" your sawn boards to finished width...
While Heskey isn't my first choice no.9 either, I'm no fan of Peter Crouch. :P On paper, yes, his scoring record is "phenomenal". But, if you look at this in more detail, you'll see that most of his goals have come against the "minnows" of international football (Trinidad & Tobago, as a prime...
Nice one, Chems. You've made a really nice job of it an I'm sure it will be very well received by its new owner.
If I can be slightly critical... I would've reduced the curve on the base so that it was a little thicker at the top. I can see why you've done it, though. It does...
Yep, they should be fine - I'm sure the ones I've used at college came from Axminster. Most toggle clamps are adjustable in some way, to compensate for minor variations in thickness, and width of narrow components.
I think the hardwax oils are slightly more durable than Danish oil and they seem to require fewer coats. It will still darken timbers like Danish oil does (perhaps not quite as much...). I think it's similar to what is used on wooden kitchen worktops, only slightly thicker.
I seem to remember Marc Spagnuolo (The Wood Whisperer) making a tall resaw fence from 18mm ply, a couple of years ago (there'll be a video of it, somewhere). It was independent of the main fence; simply G-clamped to the table at both ends. Obviously, that makes it trickier to adjust the fence of...
You can also buy Reisser screws from Toolstation, now. I know they stock the standard screws but I'm not sure whether their range is quite as grand as the one at Isaac Lord.
Yes, 18mm feels very solid - the wedged tenons really help to pull it all together! I was only thinking from an aesthetic point of view, that thicker components could make it look even better.
Here's the thread, by the way. :)
You won't go far wrong with Danish oil - the more coats, the better, really! Try sanding in between coats (400g silicon carbide or wet and dry paper is ideal for this). You can even apply the oil using the same abrasive, which acts as a kind of "grain filler". Don't forget to wipe away...
Somehow, I don't think it will be England lifting the trophy, this year... We're never properly prepared as we play far too many friendlies in our own country... :P Plus, ever manager seems to make fundamental errors in squad selection (don't get me started on Heskey or Crouch!!)...
