Mastercrafts: Who saw last night's programme?

I went for a job at a blacksmiths once. The chap asked me if I had ever shooed horses "No". Said I "but I've chased a few cats away". Andy, who still hasn't found time to watch the woodworking masterclass yet

    quiet washing machines

Roy, thanks for taking the time to post a link that reiterates a basic safety message. I do wonder how many households leave their appliances on when the house is empty or even turn off the water feed when the machines are not in use. That does not make it best practise of course. I wonder how...

    quiet washing machines

We currently have a top loade (Candy, from Darty) that is run on the night time tariff and it is loud. OK if we start it at 10pm but that means wet washing in the machine for about 6 hours once it's finished. We've tried to use it on the delay timer to start at 4.00am but that just wakes...

    quiet washing machines

ASKO do not have an agent or distributor listed in France, closest is Belgium. I certainly do not, and would not, want a tumble drier, but I do understand that we have the space to dry laundry indoors in the winter when the wood burner dries the air so the extra humidity of the washing helps...

    glazing beads

Putty. that takes me back. I got caned once for taking the soft putty from recently repaired windows and lobbing it across the school playground. The wooden glazed doors that we have been looking at have 10 or 12 square pains of double glazing with a security glass on the oustide. The glazing...

    Introducing a youngster to woodwork

My 8 year old has made 3 bird boxes to date. I cut the ply to size while see watched from a distance, but all the planing, to neaten the edges, sanding, hole drilling, screwing and painting she did herself. The twins helpd with this Little owl box too! Good luck Andy

    glazing beads

Both from a humidity point of view and security I agree. However all our DG windows are beaded from the outside and new front doors that we have been looking at also all seem to be beaded from the outside. Maybe its a french thing? Andy

    glazing beads

Should glazing beads always be used on the inside (of a front door) or is there any justification in having them on the outside? Andy

Ike, thanks I had not heard of ISE before. The concept seems very interesting and noble, I've written to them to see if they are available over here. Cheers Andy

Dick, I hadn't considered LG. I've had a poke arund their website and a spin noise leve of 69db is the best I've seen (Bosch's queitest machine is 72db). LG have some good prudct reviews too. Pete, Meile I know are good and pricey! I will probably stick with Bosch with had one in the UK that...

    quiet washing machines

We need to replace an old top loading WM which is very loud with something much quieter. AEG advertise their latest machines as having Silent System Plus and brushless motors yet they cannot provide any db ratings, neither on the website nor from the customer care dept. Strange this as Bosh...

    Chimpin' for Britain

Dick, I hope you don't mine if that raised a smile. When you did the holes did you start at the top of one side and the bottom of the other perhaps? Andy

    irish jokes

It is something I find very strange. An irishman can tell jokes about his own kin without raising an eyebrow but as soon as a non irish comedian tells the same joke it can be perceived by some as being wrong. As with all levels of communication it is important that the receiver tries to...

Gloat, the iMAc is dead long live the iMac

Roger, the smell is nice, they should bottle it. The magic mouse is, well magic! Especially like the zoom facility. Any ideas why software update is taking so long to download the OSX update? It is currently showing 9 hours! All the other updates went really fast and the broadband connection...

Gloat, the iMAc is dead long live the iMac

Dick, yep received email, just let me know a day or so before if you do happen to pass this way. I am not sure sure that I can "justify" it either - just wait until you have to do without. Andy

Gloat, the iMAc is dead long live the iMac

3 days of using a PC was enough for me. Went to see the mac doc this morning, a very nice man, he confirmed all the previous diagnoses and the old iMac is now looking down on the poor PC mortals. A new imac was there ready and waiting to be offered a new home complete with a proper keyboard...
