Oak Flooring Disaster - Help Needed!

Just looked at this again. If it has been secret nailed as they claim why are the boards lifting so high unless it is with enough force to rip all the nails out? The nails are usually driven in at an angle too. Andrew

Oak Flooring Disaster - Help Needed!

Isn't the expansion gap all around only for floating floors where the expansion ofeach board pushed the others? If it is secret nailed then that is some serious movement for the last nailed board. It would rip the nail out. Andrew

    Hardener for MDF

Ah, that makes sense. I will see if I can find some hardner locally. Thanks for everyone's help. Andrew

    Hardener for MDF

What I was concerned about was that using a two part filler would give a goo surface for tiling onto but the filler would detach from the delaminating MDF. Hence the desire to find something to stabilise the MDF first. Andrew

    Hardener for MDF

Agree entirely about MDF in bathrooms but this was done when I was young and innocent and didn't know any better (or at least had never heard of MR MDF) and in any case was done as a temporary measure as I was going to be letting the house out for a couple of years while I was working in the...

    Hardener for MDF

Not really woodworking related even though it concerns MDF so will stick this under off-topic. Mods, please move if you think fit. Now, the wall between the bath and the airing cupboard in my bathroom is tiled on MDF (not MR just plain 12 or 15mm MDF). In general it is fine and was sealed with...

    PDF Creation

PDFCreator is the one that I use. Acts like a printer to any other application. Useful too for creating PDFs from web pages. Just use print and select the PDFCreator printer. Andrew

    Which Editor?

Have just received a promotional email from Rutlands advertising four roller stands for £34.95. At that price I would suspect them of being pretty naff but they are described as "Editors Choice" April 2008. They give no more details of this recommendation. So, anyone know which editor? Andrew...

    speedtest

Slow downloads don't have to be a problem in the ISP’s network, they could be further upstream or at the server. The computer from which you are downloading will have a link as well and may be trying to get data across to a lot of users. Even Microsoft downloads can be slow at times - I have...

    Floods.

Agreed, it all works well. I was just pointing out that one of the reasons that it works is because it is arable land and that if it was covered in housing then it would probably work less well because the water wouldn't drain as easily. Andrew

    Floods.

But that is all arable land where the water can drain through it and into the drainage channels. Then it's pumped into the larger ditches before being let out into the sea at low tide. Why do you think Ely was built on an island? If you built over the fens the water would not drain as easily and...

    Performance Royalties, Song Royalties, Gripe.

Forget the search warrant. It would be worth letting him for the fun of making him change into work clothes on the front lawn.

    Stagerred crossroads...

I find that interesting because surely the driver (or perhaps cyclist without lights) that you most want to inform of your intentions is the one that you haven't seen and therefore the one that you re not taking account of when deciding on your manoeuvre. Andrew

    Laptop recommendations

Mine arrived last week and it does everything I want and sounds like it meets your wife's specification. I got the red one by the way but also available in blue or black. The LED backlight makes the screen very visible. I got mine at nearly half price from a guy who sells via eBay but who I...

    chrome plated plastic waste pipe

I don't know yet. I was merely checking availability and price before I started planning the cloakroom. The waste from the sink to the soil pipe has to be surface mounted. The price suggests its probably brass though. Would make sense. Andrew

    chrome plated plastic waste pipe

You had me worried there. But then I thought - what are chrome plated wastes made from? It's not plastic and rust doesn't seem to be a problem with them. So I guess that the stuff I have been recommended will be the same. Andrew

    chrome plated plastic waste pipe

Can't help with an online source I'm afraid but I will need something similar soon for get a cloakroom basin waste out to the drain. I enquired at my local plumbers merchant and they can get it special order - so it is available. Not cheap though - from memory it was something like a hundred...

    Part P 'get out'?

As I understand it, it is even worse than that. I believe that it is possible to self-certify even if you are not qualified but someone in the company for which you work is. But I could be wrong. I have come across one case of a chartered electrical engineer being asked by his local building...
