Is 2440 download and 379 upload good??

Depends what you are paying for; your upload speed is significantly above 256K so you are probably on one of the 'up to 8M' contracts. In which case, your speed is pretty typical, ie short of what the ISP tell you :D

16934 down, 9147 up. :D

Yet another reason to get out of '3rd world' Britain!!!

To be fair, that's my employer's T1 connection. I'll have to check at home and see what I get there. I think I have carrier pigeon internet service at home.

Sorry MDF_HAKA I should have put the same units down for both

speedtest - 5142 Mbps
internetfrog - 536,720 bps = 0.536Mbps

which is 1000x less?

Looks like a typo on speedtest 5000 Mbps would be one hell of a link!

it is was 5142 Kbps then both tests are pretty much in agreement

I've just done another test

internetfrog Speed Test Results
Download: 308,776 bps
Upload: 246,616 bps
QOS: 29%
RTT: 203 ms
MaxPause: 732 ms

The speedtest results are in kbps and the internetfrog speed test results are in bps.

The second test makes more sense to me (I think :? ) but you're right there is a big discrepancy (sp) between the two.

careful, be very careful with these results.
MOST IPS... how should I put this...... prioritise these ports that are used for these speed test java scripts.

NOT always the best way of checking speed.

Also the little test files that are used are normally cached at the ISP so I suppose technically you aren't downloading them from the web just from your ISP`s server (like your ISP`s forums or local sites).

A much better test is to download something quite exotic (not meaning xxx, meaning rare) from a large server on `tother side of the world.

I`m on tiscali :-( up to 8meg yer right! 2.5/3 most of the day then down to 128K sometimes from 6PM to midnight. Not on any fair useage penalty yet ( YET!), some if that aint traffic shaping then I don't know what it! come on lads BUY SOME MORE BANDWIDTH!

trouble is theres a lack of investment....

Steve

kityuser, I'm on Tiscali's 8Mb tariff and it seems to degrade a lot in the evenings. Its been so slow that I have a screen print of the download speed at 8.55 Kbps, now that's slow!!

Slow downloads don't have to be a problem in the ISP’s network, they could be further upstream or at the server. The computer from which you are downloading will have a link as well and may be trying to get data across to a lot of users. Even Microsoft downloads can be slow at times - I have just downloaded XP SP3 and Vista SP1.

Came across this last week and used it for the service packs. Vast improvement in speed - I was getting somewhere around 7.5Mb/s on 8Mb ADSL. Might be worth giving it a try - it doesn't cost anything.
