    A first time gloat

Very nice. And here's me having to extend my workshop to fit in my friendly Basato 3 :) Good job you've got the headroom for the 4300 as well  Enjoy! Boz

FreeNAS - Network Attached Storage using an old PC.

I've used FreeNAS as my backup data store for over 3 years now. I keep the configuration on an old USB stick and boot it from CDROM. It's been totally reliable (touch wood). It's currently in an old 1.4GHz Dell. Upgrades have gone smoothly by updating the CD using the stable releases, after...

    Scheppach Basato 3 blade guides

Hi, They certainly won't fit "as is". From the look of the Axi ones I suspect you'd have to remove the rear clamp part of the castings and make some sort of interface to the chassis/post brackets on the Basato (I'm looking at the blown up diagram in the manual for mine). I think it would be a...

Dragon Saws - gone in to receivership....

My sympathies Ian, I wish you and yours all the best for the future. Good luck in your resurrection attempts. Boz

Bessey Clamps - I do get it...

Can I gloat please? I'm a recent Uniklamp convert after buying two 600mm ones a couple of weeks ago. The movement knack works best on used clamps - brand new they stick, but they soon loosen off. I already have several Urko F clamps for heavy duty cramping but they are soooo heavy, and I like...

    Sharpening - Diamond or Carbide?

OK, I'm game! I'll avoid answering your question with an alternative. Maplin do a pair of diamond "stones" cheaper than Axi: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=217871 useful if you have a local store. I've also seen similar on local market stalls. I use these for kitchen knives...

    Insullating work shop concrete floor.

Thanks Simon. Oh well, gives somewhere else for the spiders to hide :D Boz

    Insullating work shop concrete floor.

May I ask a question Simon? I'm just working up to fitting a floating floor in my workshop, using T&G MR chipboard in my case. How big an expansion gap did you leave around the edge, and what material did you use to fill or cover it? I'm trying to avoid skirting boards. Thanks Boz

    Block Plane - Advice needed

I followed Alf's review https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1815 and bought the Veritas Apron Plane a while back. I have found it very useful as a small, light, low angle trim plane, and it's quite a bit cheaper than the "full size" block planes. Might be another option for you? Boz

    Atco ride-on mower

Miles have a parts list here: http://www.mtmc.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=23971 as a starting point. Couldn't find any manuals however. Good luck Boz

Black & Decker Workmate - Do you?

I've had a B&D Workmate for 25 years. Pressed steel and plywood tops. Started out for DIY in a flat, through engine rebuilds, failing to plane, garden carpentry, indoor building, metalwork, router table stand and a final realisation that a proper woodwork bench needs to follow it - but never...

    Dragon Saws

Just to add that, following recommendations from here and as a bandsaw newbie, Ian has been very helpful (and tolerant) as I've started out. I've ended up with an excellent product that has helped me move forward with the saw, and I will happily go back when I need to take the next step.

What's your 'general purpose' bandsaw blade?

I'm now using a Dragon M42 6/10 1/2" x 0.032ish" blade on Ed's old Basato 3 (thanks Ed!). Great for general soft and hardwood, up to 60mm deep so far. The thicker blade tensions well and is accurate with zero drift. BTW, the 6/10 tooth variation is visible over a couple of inches or so
