    MS silverlight?????

This will be because you've got Windows Update set to install automatically. Change the setting to "Download and notify" and you'll be able to better see and control what's going on. It will still download automatically, but then ask you whether to install or not. HTH :) Ray

    Windows XP update yesterday

OK, so you've now got back to a serviceable state. I would now create a Restore Point and name it so that you'll recognise it in the future. This way you'll have a swifter process to restore to a working system. Some updates are quite large, but I can't imagine an XP update of any significant...

    Windows XP update yesterday

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, then look at the System Log. That will show errors etc. and you should be able to see if a fault occurred. Ray

    Crap Drivers

That's a good attitude, Matt! Some people think that driving is a right, whereas it's a licensed privilege, subject to suspension or removal. Nowadays, with all the technological distractions that are legal - CD, radio, MP3 players, hands-free mobiles, etc. it's an ever-increasing challenge, so...

    Crap Drivers

Can't fault my Jean for her driving at all, thankfully. She takes the time to sit with the book and see what all the lights do if we get a new car. In the 40+ years we've been driving, together or separately, here or abroad, she has yet to run out of fuel, overheat, lack oil or screenwash, get...

Blister has a few questions , and something to ask

Very well summarised, Steve, thank you. I believe that the amount and frequency of items offered for sale is the acid test of "trading" and - given that the age of philanthropy is dead - it's fair to assume that the sales are for profit. If they're only of stuff "not needed," why else were they...

Blister has a few questions , and something to ask

That's easy - you're expecting everyone else to comply with your wishes. That's never going to happen - accept it - EOS. RG

    Triton parts needed

The cams are designed to make it initially easier to deal with parallel alignment (i.e., blade to fence). Once this setting is aligned, the cams are locked down and act as location posts for refitting after removal. For that job, they're ideal. There is, however, another way around it. If, as...

    TV Question again !

I've always had Sony as I prefer their "harder" picture. My friend went for a Panasonic, had to get it replaced and when the replacement failed he bought a Pioneer (paid the difference). I'd prefer the Sharp over the Pioneer, but neither match the "X" engined Bravia that Sony now do. Ray

Triton 125mm ROS - Where to Buy?

As I recall, those sanders were a direct "one off" deal between B&Q and Triton Oz, when B&Q were Triton stockists. The Triton UK regional office was not involved at all and the sanders were - subsequently - not covered by the UK Triton warranty, nor were any spares carried at Caerphilly to...

    Bye bye

As recent events have shown, this is clearly not the case. Just as in (real) life, what is "ribbing" to some is a matter of considerable import to others, apparently. It was ever thus. Ray

    Bye bye

Off we go in yet another unwise direction - I'll be surprised if this doesn't end in tears. more airborne teddies, locked thread yet again. Ray

    I want a free winzip

That may be, but current copies only have a trial period before the "Pay or remove" notice appears. Ray

    I want a free winzip

WinRAR isn't free, though, is it? I'm sure it's a "40-day trial then pay or remove" programme. Ray

Wealden cutters are extremely good, IME. Their site is here. They offer an excellent mail-order service. :) Ray

In need of help again, computer

The problem is a setting in your Account Settings. If you can receive mail but not send it, then you should be getting a specific error message when the "Send" fails. You could copy it and Google it to see what is suggested - it will be a common error. This will probably be due to not setting...

    TV advice requested

You're right - LED TVs aren't out yet in any useable size - I think the biggest is < 10" at the moment. There are a few flat screens with LED backlighting which do have a slightly brighter picture overall. I've no idea if it makes any real difference, other than allowing a thinner and lighter...
