    Had a Japanesey day today!

Hi Neil Glad you like it. It's a clever little gadget called a Craft Robo I recently treat myself to. I'm still learning how to use it but it can cut out in vynil more or less what you design on screen. Steve

    Had a Japanesey day today!

Thanks for the comments guys appreciated. You never know how these things are going to turn out (scuse the pun). I do think about designing these things before going on the lathe but probably like most of us I have a rough idea in my head and it sort of evolves as it goes. I hoped all the...

    Had a Japanesey day today!

Hi all Been toying with this idea for a while and some toys my grandaughters were playing with gave me the idea for the finial/handle. All bits out of Sycamore and very much a WIP as I`ve not put anything on it yet. Found some Japanese peace symbols (free) and made a stencil for 4 of them, might...

    Sorby long grind jig!

Hi all Hope you can see the dimensions I have on my jig, this one gives 45degs for the bowl gouge. I don`t have a datum line on the knuckle joint on my jig so not sure about the number to use but you can see the angle from the pic. I`d be interested to see what others get using the other...

    Sorby long grind jig!

Hi Spasm Can`t remember off the top of me head what the various dimensions are but I`ll post a pic tomorrow. Must admit when you said you never saw much of an improvement I didn`t expect too much and I haven`t bothered using the outer hole which would suggest an even longer grind but its fine...

    Sorby long grind jig!

Hi all Tried my long grind jig for the Proedge today and have to say I`m very pleased with it. Got maybe an extra 1/2" to 3/4" side grind on it and maybe if I use the outer hole for the jig an even longer side grind can be achieved but its spot on for me. Using the marker gauge I use 40degs for...

    Sorby long grind jig!

Hi Spasm First chance I have to try it out will be this weekend :( . I thought it would be the `long grind` solution for me chisels but you think maybe not? Steve

    Creativity & Development of concepts

Hi all Interesting thread. I fully understand turners like Eugene who prefer natures beauty to rule the day and I too like to see a lovely grained, nicely turned piece of wood but what I would add to the discussion is that I can also look on a high gloss mirror finished bowl the same as some...

    Sorby long grind jig!

Hi all Just got the new long grind jig for my proedge and wondered if anyone else has tried it yet? Just not quite sure what the height setting should be on the jig itself. I got the angle set jig as well but not sure how the different settings relate yet? Steve

A design like one of George`s

Don't worry Greg we've all been there. I have made more dross than I care to remember (and still do now and then) Each cockup is a lesson learned as long as you enjoy what you do who cares? Cheers Steve

A design like one of George`s

Hi folks Made this 12" diameter ash bowl today and thought I`d have a go at replicating the design on that excellent bowl George made from Marilyn Campbell`s blank recently. I gather Marilyn made the blank by combining different timber in conjunction with resin to make a solid blank. Mine is...
