    Gun display rack

I thought you might like to see an odball bespoke project for a friend who collects world war one rifles. It involved much measuring counterboring and setting out and difficult return mitres. The finish was the clients insistance I would not have accepted such a high gloss build ...in fact I let...

Is there a market for infill plane kits? Upd8 - setback No1

Well consider yourself lucky, because they were pretty rubbish, speaking as an idiot who bought a couple, and don't let anyone tell you different I had endless trouble with missing parts, parts that didn't fit, non delivery etc etcs. Alan

UPDATE - Eastern branch meeting in Norwich - Sat 7th March.

Yes an excellent lunchtime, good to meet someone new, as for the "Harviestoun - Old Engine Oil" I haven't had such a good beer for a long time, seriously dark ale. The barman asked me what I thought it would do for my car... Is he a mechanic in part time? I think if I haven't had any joy from...

    Strange Network Problem

Mark no worries, a few of us are meeting in the "Fat cat" (Norwich) tomorrow. I guess we are the eastern section of the UK workshop, I can assure you I will take you up on your very kind offer, and drink to your health, and the rest of UK w'kshp, a very knowledgeable and helpful bunch all round...

    Strange Network Problem

yes, that would be my way of trying to be humble and not patronising obviously I'm not very good at it, and have no intention of continuing this pointless exchange, by saying something designed to evoke yet another response. Alan... also no offence intended, I'm sure if we were sitting in a pub...

    Strange Network Problem

I thought it was clear I understood that from the first sentence I posted. Alan

    Screws?

You will find a wealth of information from people from all walks of woody type things here and we all have something to learn. The reason oak doesn't like iron "ferrous" type materials is because it has tannins in it which react badly with it. Don't leave your tools on it overnight! or leave a...

    Strange Network Problem

Steve I have to ask, why are you not using auto DHCP and thus not have to bother to hard code the IP's. Unless you are not hard coding them and it's auto DHCP doing the allocating and then depending which machine gets turned on first will depend which ip address it gets allocated....which in...

    Screws?

They are OK as is brass, I would have thought the cadmium plated gold screws OK too. The thing to watch out for with stainless is the head crumbles under stress... I mean the cross chews out. I would use the same principle as brass. Drive a hardened ordinary screw in first to cut the threads...

    dovetails feeling quite pleased

Why thankyou, I am a little confused as to how I managed to post this under buying advice after all this time using forums.... I suppose it's an age thing :? Alan

    dovetails feeling quite pleased

Ok I could tell a porky here :-) I think if it had been softwood they would have gone together. On the first trial fit I got about a third of the way in and it got tight, so I did have to pare the pins a tad, I admit. what you are looking at is a dry fit without being planed flush. I could have...

    dovetails feeling quite pleased

These are the first dovetails I have done by hand since 33 years ago at school. I used the Rob cosman method plus the 140 skew shoulder to help register the tails onto the second board (works well). I am quite pleased considering the old eyes are going and this was in solid oak for both pieces...

    SCHEPPACH HMS2600Ci 240V

Elektra beckum (metabo) 260. You just have to watch which model.... the cheaper usually takes resharpenable. Either can be converted to the other with the correct lockbar set as an extra. Alan

    Veritas Edge Plane

An interesting one this. I didn't use one because I didn't have one. I always seemed to manage (and clearly that is still possible). However I was jointing some oak at the weekend and several pieces had gone according to plan, a few swipes with a no7 all OK, take 2=3 swipes then stop shaving and...

APTC New prices - I've worked out the problem!

It's a classic, In my job we used to get stores delivered in cardboard boxes...before they went to woven sacks. (digression they tried reusable plastic crates but they didn't get any returned, can't understand that but...) I had a box arrive it was about 2'x2'x3' and light as a feather, when I...

    Some green oak work.........finished.

My missus does it all the time ...nothing wrong with that :-) Actually I just looked at the photos properly and realised you had real tenons sticking out, even though I was clearly "correctly" obsessed with the T&E. Alan. P.S I am an old relative of someones and I'm still going to make the...

    Some green oak work.........finished.

I have to say nice work, and I have to assume that those post are decorative and just swung over to allow the fit. However all that aside, I haven't given it too much thought due to the horrendous ugliness of whatever ***** (insert own expletive) ran a bit of grey T&E down a post like that and...
