    Smoking

The point is that the CO figure is completely irrelevant. If the car was sealed then you would die of oxygen starvation long before the CO got to you in either case. Each breath you take is diminishing the oxygen level whilst increasing the level of CO2. If the garage rather than the car is...

    Smoking

What comes out of any exhaust pipe is not air. Air contains around 20% oxygen. That oxygen is used by the engine to burn the fuel, the rest of the air entering the engine really serves no purpose. So the "air" coming out of the pipe contains very little oxygen. Much the same true of ourselves...

    US Election November 5th

I can't disagree with you, but sadly that is the world we live in. "Don't let the buggers get you down" is my motto :-)

    US Election November 5th

I can only repeat the advice given to me by a very good friend. Can you influence or control or change whatever it is that is getting you down? If the answer is no, then there really is little point in letting it get to you, it's just not worth it. Shrug your shoulders, stop worrying about it...

    Putin is a loser

One thing you have to say for Stalin, the guy was pretty direct. None of this falling out of windows malarkey, if he thought you were in any way suspect he would just have you taken out back and shot!

    US Election November 5th

Seems to me Trump voters fall into two broad camps. Those who love him come what may, and for whom he can do no wrong. Those who find the man unpleasant, to a greater or lesser degree, but feel they were better off under his presidency and look forward to being better off again. Or they prefer...

90 degree joint for lean-to roof joist

If you use the onduline bitumen sheets on any pitch less than about 30°, I have found you need to space the battens at about 300mm, otherwise they will tend to sag between them over time. Steeper pitch and 450 is fine.

An example of the orange one's supporters "alternative facts" perhaps?

    US Election November 5th

Exactly. The only way any country can afford to be isolationist is if it is entirely self sufficient, there can be very few of them.

    Sanding Sealer Question

I suspect it is some kind of contamination. It could be blooming, which is usually down to excess humidity or too low temperature when spraying. Could just be a bit of excess moisture in the wood itself. Hard to see in the picture but if the effected areas have even a slightly milky look, then...

    US Election November 5th

Not just foreign manufacturers, the US manufacturers have been doing it for years. My 1993 Jeep was made in Mexico, presumably to take advantage of cheaper labour. America first is all very well if people are prepared to accept that they have a choice. Drop their wages to the level of those...

    any idea?

Curiously enough our resident squirrel has been running about with something very similar. No idea where they have come from, certainly not any of the neighbours.

    Another Ban on the way?

Do you find your fridge or freezer highly complicated? Essentially the same technology as a heat pump. Much simpler than a typical modern gas boiler.

Sourcing a Locknut for Wadkin AGS 10

That makes perfect sense, and have to agree removing the inner land a pretty daft idea.

    When book matching goes wrong...

Couldn't really see anything in your first set of pictures, thought my eyes must be going funny. Now I am definitely seeing a plump naked lady lurking behind your shelves :-)

    Wanted 'Rotating Wheel' (See attachment)

The picture clearly shows a flange. No reason it can't be replaced with a non flanged one. If you wanted a tyre on it to avoid it marking the floor then you could use a suitable size of glue lined shrinkwrap, shrink it on and trim it once set. Bigger concern is how it's held in. Is the lighter...

Sourcing a Locknut for Wadkin AGS 10

Not sure about the Dremel. In the video the guy is using a die grinder, a precision tool capable of being mounted absolutely rigidly, neither of which applies to a Dremel. A Dremel itself is not that accurate, and I have yet to see any method of mounting one rigidly. Good tool, but not for...

    Harrison L5 3HP Lathe

Oh and spray motorcycle chain lube is good for the gears. Dries to a waxy consistency so doesn't flick all over the inside of the covers.
