    Workshop socket layout

The majority of electrical socket's in my workshop are over head height over the workbench and assembly area. Saves cables dragging across the floor, getting worn and preventing trip hazard. The only ones that aren't are the ones for the grinder, radio, phone charger base and router table.

    Band saw

May I suggest that you contact contact Charnwood, Record Power and Sheppach UK to see if they have an agent or stockist on the Isle of Man. That way your daughter is better supported with any questions she may have about set up, use and repairs.

MPs vote in favour of assisted dying bill

So True - sadly it's called 'Palliative Care'.

MPs vote in favour of assisted dying bill

The Liverpool Pathway - best description is here. I've now seen 2 elder members of my family put on 'Palliative Care' - I'd say it's the same thing Cruel action as the Liverpool Pathway. All the patient gets is some pain killing drugs, possibly some liquid just to moisten their lips whilst they...

HELP I need a new desktop PC

That is not always possible to do with Win10, MS made changes that making the boot sequence very hard to find and change especially for someone not very computer literate or confident. There is lots of advice on the web, some easy, some not so easy; search for "Changing Win10 Boot Sequence" -...

    Sanders

A ROS does need a very effective dust extraction system. I bought a Parkside one - the seal between the sander head and power unit lasted all of 2 hours - twice! (Took the first one back for an exchange, should have asked for my money back). When the seals failed it sheds dust out of the gap...

HELP I need a new desktop PC

Out of the choice between John Lewis and Curry's/PC world I think I'd go to John Lewis but I agree with @okeydokey about their knowledge. A 'professional' computer shop should be a better bet. As for config :- me I'd be looking at a small SSD (128GB) to have the programs loaded onto (speeds up...

Bandsaws - best of the budget?

I see you are in Leicestershire - May I suggest you go and visit 'Charnwood's', the store it's self. I have one of their 10inch bandsaws. It does most jobs I want it to and it is Bench top. You may find they have a second-hand machine of the size you want; or they may know that they have one...

My most horrible food mistake so far...

Courgettes! Every time I've had them I've been violently ill (read projectile vomiting!). But being serious - Chinese food in the Chinese countryside. Their stomach bugs are different to western ones and hence much of their food is not that edible for westerners.

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Brexit was caused by Bliar completed under Cameron (Sadly). Before you ask - why was it caused by Bliar? Bliar was desperate to be the President of the EU so his government did not put the restrictions on migration from the 'New Eight' unlike the rest of the 'old' EU countries. If DC hadn't...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Such infrastructure needs to be completed as part of the development of more housing (estates). This rush to build evermore houses never ever includes the thinking about water, waste disposal, doctors, schools, etc... Me - family planning needs to be part of that as well - the population of...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

One part of Maggie's ethos that either failed or she didn't recognise is the British 'hatred' of savings. We need better education on Money matters in this country. I worked in the USofA for a couple of period, probably around 20 months in total, it was very noticeable that the people I worked...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

My second apprenticeship with the chap I was working alongside we would lift and carry two 2&1/4cwt concrete banister rails between us. End of each one in each hand. Couldn't do that now.

    Some mistake, surely?

I have said for a long time that furniture made in imperial sizes is more comfortable. As I get older I find I'm forced to use metric more and more often. Nowadays when measuring up I do imperial first then check in Metric (measure twice, cut once, etc.) Imperial measurements are easier when it...

How easy is it to fit a kitchen?

May I suggest rather than 150mm/6inch up from the worktop place them 100mm/4inches down from the underside of the wall cabinets. You will always be able to get to them when the worktop get filled up (it will!). It's also worthwhile fitting the sockets for washing machine/dryer/dishwasher under...

How easy is it to fit a kitchen?

For wall cupboards you can buy hanging rail - much easier to get level and stronger on stud walls. I've now done 3 kitchens for myself. Except for a couple of custom made cabinets every time I've bought the cheapest cabinets from B&Q and made the doors myself. In the end it's getting the...

    Beginner router kit

At that price the set is good value. Larger sets you are unlikely to ever use every cutter in the set. You will find that a 'Top' bearing cutter will be a useful purchase that is not included in the set - a 1/2x1/2inch is a good starting point. The Trend 'Craft Pro" cutters are good value and...

Work so hard you cripple yourself

Mate wants an apprentice; he's prepared to to take the salary hit for 2 years whilst he gats the person up to speed and pay for their college education. He expects that after 2 years the apprentice will be able to benefit the business sufficiently to pay their way. Can he find one, anyone? to...

Help please...timber for an ashes urn

Teak would be a better timber. Is/was there a timber he preferred to work with? I'd dovetail the sides together (in fact I did) Rebate for the base out and screw together - use brass screws (or if you must Marine grade Stainless steel). The size is 12x8x5 or 12x9x5 inches. I made the late...

    Do you sell your stuff?

My father, a skilled C&J used to make long case clocks as a means of keeping his hand in and his mind active when he retired. He would sell such just for the cost of materials. They made from Ply veneered Chipboard and some hardwood parts with electric movements - that cost in the early '80's...
