    Chuck recommendations

It might be prudent to check if the Clubman carriers will fit a newer body. Drifting a little OT; I've never quite understood why people buy extra carriers for their jaws, I find it quicker to swap jaws on fitted carriers, rather than remove the full assemblies and re-engage them with the...

    Chuck recommendations

I've had a Versachuck for coming up to two years now. It's a solid bit of kit, that's worked well for me. Although I haven't used one myself, the Evolution looks better made. If your workshop has any tendency towards damp or condensation the stainless steel construction of the Evolution may make...

    Collecting wood - just lucky?

You'd better believe it. Once you start to get into acquiring interesting newly cut wood or buying properly thick timber, you have to realise that managing wood for turning is a seriously long term proposition. I've got thick blanks cut over twenty five years ago waiting for their turn under the...

Axminster APF 10 Evolution Powered Respirator

Your words, not mine. I think it's dreadful, but functional. I'd guess anything nicer would add to the price significantly. That would be a first in my workshop, even in the height of summer it seems like a chiller cabinet. Now it's under £200 with a decent visor, I think the price is...

Axminster APF 10 Evolution Powered Respirator

Axminster APF 10 Evolution Powered Respirator I bought one of these at the start of the year and thought people might like to know a little more about it. The pictures, details and prices are all at: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ap ... tor-101809 I didn't want anything with leads or...

What you do with your creations?

You all make it sound very simple. I'm sure that as a ex-accountant you found the tax issues of moving to a freelance life fairly easy to understand. For those supplementing a PAYE income and who may never have had any dealing with tax forms and accountancy it can be hugely daunting. Absolutely...

What you do with your creations?

You and I might think that's pretty simple, but you need to bare in mind that many people will have never even seen a self assessment return and a surprising number will also find anything like this beyond their understanding and capabilities. You're already discussing issues well out of many...

What you do with your creations?

Well it's not completely 'money for nothing' there will be a fair amount of work needed in accountancy, whether paid for or DIY. That sort of paperwork doesn't suit everyone, especially if they're not used to self employment and the accounting issues that surround it. If you pay for an...

What you do with your creations?

I'm afraid that 'trying to make money' from woodturning is exceptionally difficult. If you look at the few people actually making a living from turning, it's always very experienced turners. They not only sell their work, but usually have extra income streams from teaching others to turn...

    Blade for Parkside plunge/track saw

From new I've used an Axminster blade in mine. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axcaliber-co ... sel=951515 Great quality cut from the 40T blade. Beware that it's got a narrower kerf than the standard Parkside blade, so you may want, or need, to renew the splinter guard if you fit one.

    RIP Record CL3/4

Not much logic to that. Most would buy the new one and the old stock would have to be devalued. It makes more sense to dump all the old stock, then introduce the new model.

    decision to make

If the price is right, go for it. As others have said Elu kit is superbly made. If you're lucky enough to get a lightly used and well cared for one, it'll last you another 40 years. Parts are easy to get and fit too. I happily bought another 96E the year before last when I could have bought a...

buffing wheel to sharpen woodturning tools?

One sponsored turner demonstrating doesn't make it common practice. More to the point of this thread, the tool wasn't sharpened on a buffing wheel. Let's keep advice to novices clear and helpful.

Very, very, very annoyed. 2 things.

Probably an old VW then. Yes. Key for my B6 Passat estate bought from my local main dealer on 6th August 2015 total bill inc vat £240.73 I can't explain the ohms and volts of it, but it had something to do with the non-OEM key losing it's data after a number of uses. I heard the same information...

Very, very, very annoyed. 2 things.

From what I've heard and read, with VW you can get cheaper keys coded to the car, but they often fail soon after, so a main dealer is the only reliable answer. Yes, it takes a week to 10 days with VW as the keys have to be programmed in Germany to the VIN plate then the dealer has to actually...
