    Exterior woodwork

To keep it looking like new you would probably have to oil it a few times initially and probably about 2 times per year but it depends on the timber and the oil used. Jon

Looks good so far. Just wondering how you are going to get the domino in the mitre as there doesnt look like there is enough room to get the machine in. Jon

    ts 4000

I have got a 4010 which I use as a second saw. I have a wobble saw for it which it handles without any problems but i very rarely use it. This may fit your saw but it comes at a price. http://www.dm-tools.co.uk/product.php/sn/SCH72310709 If you are still struggling for a manual I may be able...

    Exterior woodwork

I would go with the sikkens Filter 7 woodstain on top of Sikkens Cetol HLS basecoat. Oiling will produce a nice finish but will require regular re-oiling while the sikkens will last for a good few years between coats. Jon

    Pre Finished Ply

I think you will struggle to find pre finished veneered ply sheets. You can get pre finished veneered MDF from edens http://www.edens.co.uk/. It would be my preference to use veneered MDF for a job like this. Veneered ply isnt generally available in thicknesses above 12mm and is usually only...

"New" P/T - what oil for the gearbox?

You can download a manual for a Wilson Planer here http://www.daltonsmachines.com/uploads/ ... Manual.pdf Its not exactly the same model as yours but it is very similar. In the manual it says use a good machine oil medium body. Hope this is of some help Jon

    Spindle Moulders.

The one on ebay looks ok. Just a few points its got a 1 inch spindle rather than the more common 30mm or 1 1/4 inch. Its got a fairly lightweight motor for a spindle moulder so will probably not handle large blocks or heavy joinery type cuts very easily. Jon

    Any Kitchen cabinet fitters here?

I havent seen that style being sold for ages. I would be very suprised if it is still being manufactured. Jon

Could you use a 6mm dowel drill in a router? Using a guide bush and jig you should be able to get very accurate results. Jon

how to veneer MDF that has a solid maple lipped top

My Vote would be to make it from solid timber but if using veneer I would go with option B and select the solid maple strip to match the colour of the veneer. With option A the glueline will be darker and quite visible especially on Maple where the veneer meets the rounded edge. Jon

    Kitchen Alcove (WIP)

Cheers Brad I am going to impement a system like yours as soon as I get caught up with work which will hopefully be in a couple of weeks time. I am thinking of allowing a week extra every six weeks to take up the backlog or even go on holiday 8) Jon

    Kitchen Alcove (WIP)

Hi Brad your about spot on in terms of money. I do quite a few jobs like this and they can be quite profitable. I would have prefered to do it in one go rather than spread out over a month or so but I have got 5 jobs on the go at the moment. As soon as I get them done I am going back to one job...

How did you first get into wood work?

I dont necessarily think furniture is more skilled than joinery its just needs a different set of skills. Someone who is skilled at furniture may well struggle with joinery. Jon

    which spindle moulder, sedgwick?

Hi Peter I have a Sedgwick SM4 and find it to be a very capable machine and will do fine furniture work as well as heavy joinery type work easily Mine is 3phase and was about 6 years old when I bought it and had hardly been used, It cost me about £900 and I bought the powerfeed new. The two...

    Brown Oak

Hi Marcus I have found oak grading varies from supplier to supplier. I use brown oak occasionally and my supplier would describe what you have as colour variation and there brown oak is pretty much brown throughout. I would definately complain. It keeps the timber company on there toes and...
