    Small morticer

I have no direct experience of the smaller benchtop machines but I would imagine they would struggle with a 16mm mortise in hardwood. It depends on how thick your doors are as you may get away with a 1/2inch mortise if your doors are 44mm thick and 1/2 inch mortises should be easier to cut with...

    Multico Morticer

Just wondering if there is some confusion over the bushes here. The floorstanding multico morticers do not have a chuck for the auger bit they have a turned bush/collet and the bit is secured with a bolt. What Bob seems to be talking about is the bush for the chisel shank. Ideally you need a set...

    Ash with an oiled finish?

I have recently done an Ash staircase and used this http://www.hardwaxoil.co.uk/?gclid=CPv5 ... wodHxwjeA# There is slight colour change but it was more mellow than orangey. They also do a white tinted one which might be worth experimenting with. Jon

    Breather fabric question...

Yeah I suppose it should. If your bag is quite thin i would recomend rounding all the sharp eges of the baseboard and former over quite severly but you probably know this anyway. Jon

    Breather fabric question...

I usually just put breather fabric upto the former and sometimes around it. You need to check that the bag doesnt get tucked under the ply and the former when the air is extracted. I usually manually stretch the bag while the air is being extracted which also helps to remove air pockets from the...

    Biscuit Jointer advice please

I have been a happy domino user for about 3 years now. I think in this time i have used the biscuit jointer a couple of times at the most and in my workshop the domino has completely replaced the biscuit jointer. I have a decent biscuit jointer a Mafell LNF20 but I cant think of one application...

    Multico Morticer

I have a multico and could measure the bushings for you if you need dimensions to get them made up. Could be worth posting in the woodturning section as some of the guys have metal work lathes as well and may be able to make some for you. I also bought some from my local tool shop and I think...

    Timber Conservatory - Advice Required

On the few conservatories I have done I have used metal fittings and gaskets from this company http://www.exitex.com/Capex/cdefault.aspx. Installation is simple and it is just screwed down to the rafter. Should be able to get fittings from local building centre. For polycarbonate I have used...

Veneered European Oak Supply Near me?

Looking at your pics the solid wood looks like European Oak as you dont often get the medulary rays in AWO and most AWO is slab cut giving a more pronounced grain. I often mix and match AWO veneered boards with solid European Oak as it usually finishes to the same colour and you would have to...

Clamping a router table fence in position

I agree pivoting the fence works but is not the best solution if you want to use a sliding table or mitre fence. For this you idealy want the fence to be parallel to the mitre slot or sliding table. You can achieve this if you have two slots for the fence to run in perpendicular to the mitre...
