I'm looking for some European Oak to extend a few cabinets in the kitchen that were installed a few years ago. Google doesn't seem to be very helpful today.

Any of the Northamptonites know of a good source?

Just tried using Google Maps and came up with these results. There aren't many working websites so, you'd be better of phoning around a couple of places - one of them is bound to be able to point you in the right direction.

I also came across Falcon Panel Products but, I get the impression they may be Trade only...? :?

Thanks Olly, I will post a picture of the wood as I'm not even sure its European Oak.

Hi Chems. If you're after veneered blockboard, MDF or ply, give Eco Timber a call.
They're somewhere over near Duston, if I remember correctly.
Good luck.
Adam.

Well I'm pretty sure its oak not Cherry from the original order but not sure what type.

I don't think you will get european oak veneered MDF off the shelf, it will have to be a special from the likes of Vale. You can get MFC with several different oak finishes .

South London hardwoods do a pippy oak veneer on MDF but its about twice the price of AWO.

The medular rays would suggest that it is oak but couldn't say what species. It looks like its all been finished with a tinted laquer as its quite orange.

As its just for the carcases I would just go withAWO and try to colour it as near as poss

Looking at your pics the solid wood looks like European Oak as you dont often get the medulary rays in AWO and most AWO is slab cut giving a more pronounced grain.

I often mix and match AWO veneered boards with solid European Oak as it usually finishes to the same colour and you would have to be an expert to notice the difference so I dont think you will have any problems using AWO veneered MDF in your project.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can match it. I noticed in focus they had a very narrow board of veneered MDF that looked just like it. Will investigate that further.

The few boards of oak veneered mdf I've purchased have been american white oak. I found as Jason B suggested that it works well with european oak lippings. Mine was bought from Welland Valley timber in Stamford - not sure where they get it from but their price was in line with larger suppliers and they deliver it FOC to me which has a bearing on the price. I'm not far from Stamford but I think the stuff I bought was delivered from Coventry so you may well get free delivery also in Northampton. Otherwise you could try Timbmet but i think you need a £250 order to qualify for delivery last time I checked.
Cheers
Steve

I posted this earlier, but its's not shown up - anybody know why?

Anyway to repeat:

Timbmet's yard in Oxford is in the process of being turned into housing and business park and as far as I know all that they have left there is the Head Office.

If Abingdon isn't too far you could try Adhectic:

If space in your transport is limited, they will cut sheets down (50p. per cut last time they did it for me).
