    Staircase (WIP) starting to install

The stairs have been covered with cardboard and the oak parts have been wrapped in cling film to protect them. The white finish is just the primer coat and there is still a top coat to be applied so i am hopefull it wont get too trashed. :D Because the newel is supporting the floor above the...

    Staircase (WIP) starting to install

The big newel is supporting the floor above. This wasnt intentional but there wasnt enough headroom so the trimmer joist had to be removed and the floor supported by the oak post. The stairs are fixed to the wall underneath every tread and the top step hooks over the trimmer joist and is fixed...

    Staircase (WIP) starting to install

Theres no point to the point. It was just left like that as there is a gap between the stairs and the wall where a joist goes through so i wasnt sure of the detailing. it will probably get cut back when second fixed. I would usually say thanks for the comments but you lot dont seem to be...

Pine Chest of Drawers - Finished

Looks like a good finished job olly. Did you consider using Ash instead of pine for the construction? Ash can be bought for only a few quid more a cubic ft more than decent softwood and would stain to the same colour. I used to work for a small furniture manufacturer not a mass producer and i...

I have been buying American Oak for quite a few years now and have never been offered it in waney edge boards. I may be wrong but i think the vast majority of american oak imported will be in straight 2 square edged boards. Cheers Jon

    Staircase (WIP) starting to install

I have started fitting the staircase today didnt get there until 11-00 as we had to wait for a timber delivery so didnt get as much done as i had hoped. The stairs are going into an old farmhouse which is being done up. The area is quite dark with not much natural light so that was the main...

sugestion needs to purchase door cabinet machinary

Tulip wood is also known as American Poplar, american whitewood and canary whitewood so could well be the same timber. It is quite common to have black and green stripes in it. I have pretty much stopped using it and only ever used it for painted work. I generally use beech now for face...

Routing odd-width housings for veneer MDF

I always use this method myself now. Another way is to cut the housing with whatever cutter you have 16 or 18mm etc and then cut a small shoulder on the edge of the veneered mdf using a hand router with a fence or a router table to the depth of the housing. This can be blind or done both sides...

    Jet DDS-225 Dual Drum Sander

Hi Matty I would advise looking around for a secondhand fine dust extractor such as a dce unimaster similar to this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DCE-UNIMASTER-DUS ... 4398049b58 . These have the filters to cope with fine dust and are totally enclosed as well. I got mine for about £250 but...

As Jason says we need to know the style and how many doors you are wanting to produce. As a rule when i make hardwood doors i use virtually every machine in the work shop. I use a rip table saw, then planer thicknesser, then tenoner, then spindle moulder, Then panel saw for sizing, then wide...
