Parting bead groove - how thick is paint?

Hi all, I'm currently working on a replacement sliding sash window for our kitchen: it's put back the kitchen install I was planning but it makes sense to sort this first as it will be behind the new units and is in a right old state. I'm pretty much sorted with the design, what with diagrams...

Setting butt hinges into beaded face frame

Thanks xy. That's a nice cabinet you made there - with curves too! Nice to see the hinges in line with the bead - it looks good.

Setting butt hinges into beaded face frame

Peter, Thank you so much for the link to your article, that is exactly the information I was looking for. phil.p - Looks like a job for a custom-made paring block to feather those hinges into the correct angle with a chisel - maybe easier done prior to running the bead? (which will most...

Setting butt hinges into beaded face frame

Thanks Custard, that is the sort of really helpful insight I was hoping for. Does it limit it by more than the standard 95 euro hinge? I think I might need to have a play with this over the weekend... Probably not worth compromising the basic function of the cupboards in the name of aesthetics...

Setting butt hinges into beaded face frame

Hello, I'm going to be building our kitchen soon. The plan is for birch ply cabinets with painted hardwood (sycamore) beaded face frames and frame and panel doors with an ovolo moulding on the rails and stiles. I'm thinking about using butt hinges rather than soft-close euro hinges, and...

    Axminster AW128PT thoughts? Need a jointer/planer

My reasons for choosing the Jet were: 1) no need to remove the fence when switching between surfacing and thicknessing. I used to have an old elektra Beckum and was fed up of finding somewhere to put the out feed table, the fence and the dust hipper whenever I was thickness planing. 2) better...

    Axminster AW128PT thoughts? Need a jointer/planer

I came pretty close to buying one of these (before the reduction). I thought they were quite nice and I had a play on the demo model in store. In the end I bought the Jet 310 because I preferred the design of the tables lifting in-line and together and the fact that the fence stays in place -...

Lucky you! My dad complains that he has never been busier since he retired. I suppose I should be grateful that I don't have to face that battle for a good many years!

    Hardwood Suppliers?

I buy my timber from Langley Furniture Works http://www.langleyfurnitureworks.co.uk which is near Hexham. They are predominantly a cabinet making and specialist joinery firm but also have a good stock of locally grown hardwoods for sale which they season themselves. Species available include...

New Member - Newcastle Area (Courses?)

Get some plans and have a go! Popular Woodworking magazine (American) have a couple of books on garden furniture. The one I have is called "Building more classic garden furniture" by Danny Proulx. The projects look pretty doable and don't require a massive workshop full of machinery which many...

Hi Stew, I live in Hexham, work in Newcastle and haven't found any local courses I'm afraid. What sort of stuff are you interested in making? If you want to go down the hand tools route, check out Paul Sellers' blog, his YouTube videos and his woodworkingmasterclasses site which has a free...

    Straight router bit for mortices

As Phil says, I usually use either a normal straight cutter with a bottom cutter, or one of the Wealden deep pocket cutters which are essentially the same thing on a long shack for morticing. http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... t_233.html I've not tried using an upcut bit (they're...
