Remove long throw gate lock? (Perry)

Good question, and I can't find out because I don't know how to get the bolt off either!

Remove long throw gate lock? (Perry)

Anyone know how to get these off a door once they are attached? Removing the screws is not enough. It has the black handle/escutcheon thing on the front, and that won't come off either....

    Mobile Sash Window....

Hello! I've got a sash window which is going walk about ... or at least one corner of it is. The frame has somehow shifted back wards at least an inch in that corner, leaving a big gap between it and the brickwork and dislodging the plaster on the inside. Can't seen any sign of movement in the...

    Sash window cill repair

I need to cut out and replace the front part of a sash window cill. What's the best method to cut it our? Should I aim just to cut it across square and screw/glue a replacement piece on, or is more cunningness required? Thanks.

    Decent timber in Surrey

Hi there, I've recently moved to Surrey, near Woking. I'm looking for recommendations for a timber merchant. At the moment I need a bit of durable softwood, larch or similar, for joinery repairs. Thanks!

    Adjustable shelves

Crikey it’s a while since I got a UK workshop email popping into my mailbox! Nice to see so many of you still chipping away. FWIW I found that thick birch ply (long grain, obvs, with hardwood lipping glued with a spline) 7/8 or even 1” was very stiff and never visibly sagged in any shelf I...

a stanley no 4 smoothing plane as my first plane

"If it is your only first or only plane you'd do better to get a No.5 or (my choice) a No. 5 1/2." Depending on the sort of woodworking you are going to be doing with it....

what mortice chisel do you use?

I have a set of the old pattern Sorby mortise chisels, but they're too thin by the ferrule and prone to bend, at least in the smaller sizes. If I could be bothered I would look out for a set of pig stickers, which take almost any amount of abuse, but I've become strangely uninterested in buying...

    Equalising table slides

Thanks Ollie, that would be a good solution except this is a really trad-style table, so I don't think the client will like it. Guess I'll have to order from the States....

    Equalising table slides

Hi there, just wondering if anyone know where to get these, or the metal mechanism at least, in the UK? http://www.osbornewood.com/9050.cfm Thanks!

    18th century workshops — resources?

Thanks everyone, Andy, very helpful as always! A bit more detail, I guess I was meaning joiner more than carpenter, and I meant ship's carpenter as in the guy they used to take with them for running repairs etc. rather than the actual ship builders. The reason I am asking is that I am...

    18th century workshops — resources?

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone can recommend any books or other resources giving information on how an 18th century carpenters workshop might be fitted out, especially regarding tool, timber and hardware storage etc. Even better if someone knows of sources relating to ship's carpenters of...

    Hinges....

It can be done, I know because I've done it. It is a pain though. With the concealed hinges are you talking about the Blum kitchen type hinge or this sort of thing: http://www.ratman.co.uk/products/concealed-hinges ?
