    Exciting news! (For me anyway)

PS the letters 'L' of 'little' and 'T' of Thistle are actually in 2 parts. They were too big for the Ex16 so what i did to join them together was cut a jigsaw piece to join them. Seamless when glued.

    Exciting news! (For me anyway)

Ah thanks Gogsi, The thing about the grain around the Tin & Antimony elements is I don't know it'l make that pattern till its been oiled. So it was a nice surprise. Yep its an Excalibur EX-16 I have from Axminster. Ive had to buy a replacement lower arm & upper arm but thats because I've used...

    Scroll writing!!

A handwriting font I use is "lucida handwriting italic" Here is an example of a plaque I made for a newly engaged couple. Obviously some of the letters need to be edited slightly (don't cut all the way round) to keep it intact. Letters like e, g, o, a. You'll know what I mean.

    Wood supplies

Not sure of any near Derbyshire but there is an exotics timber merchant in Glasgow (Scotland) called Reid Timber. From what I've heard people travel quite far to buy from Alastair :) http://www.spanglefish.com/woodcarving-scotland/index.asp?pageid=569512

    Adhesives for patterns

Hey Sheepy :) I've said this before in another thread but I'll say it again because this spray is amazing. 250ml each can £5.99. (3 for £15) which is better than one can of 3M I originally bought this in the retail shops (Millers art store, Glasgow) but when they stopped selling it or didn't...

    Scroll saw box first attempt

Hey I've got a question. I made one of those once, very basic though only one drawer. How do you get the insides nice and smooth too? I don't have a spindle sander & my dremel sanding bit would take off too much. After I glued it up the insides were slightly off (easier to sand on the outside...

    A Seat for scrolling

I'm on one of those cheap from Argos or ikea or somewhere lol Quite comfy but for long periods of time if I'm scrolling all day I need a stretch of the legs :)

    Check out this rack

A bad title, I know :S But I was sick of sifting through the packets of scroll saw blades (Pegas) & since I have many packets I have to go through them to find the blade I need to use. And actually didn't know how many blades I had at one time. Anyway, had some cherry wood sitting doing...

    Wood sample display help

Yep :D These are all the woods I work with or have worked with. The only one I won't use again (chews up / breaks blades) is Black Palmira. To make that business card sized slice took 6 blades. Nothing wrong with tension or choosing the wrong blade, just the Palm wood is way to tough to cut...

    Wood sample display help

Didn't think I could veneer on the scroll saw but I did. These are slightly thicker slices than traditional veneer but I assure you the offcuts I have are veneer of each wood. About as thin as a credit card. Anyway, I made these with a little thickness so they don't crack/snap/break as easy &...

    Make some extra money.

Interesting, I was offered a similar thing with Tesco locally where I live. They heard of my scroll sawing, emailed me & offered for me to set up a small stall in the entrance of the store though the price they quoted was £100 for 3 days. I declined as I didn't have that much to spend.

Hey & welcome the forum :D Like said before, brilliant people in this forum. Always happy to help & great tips & tricks shared :) I had to post this though, but it's only my opinion. I went for the Proxxon DSH from Axminster and had 2 replacements. Both machines had the same problem & both...

    Wood sample display help

Common sense, that's what you guys have :D I'm too busy trying to think of exactly what's in that photo you posted that I totally forgot that I could do what you suggested. I just need to find a jump ring large enough to fit thick pieces of wood on it. It would be good if my customers were...

    Wood sample display help

Okay, since all I have is a scroll saw I figured I'll ask in here as I wasn't sure where else to post this. When out and about meeting customers I usually bring my iPad Air with me to show them examples of my work though just recently I've taken close up shots (I'm a photographer too) of the...

Right, if everyone is agreed with Danish Oil i'll maybe go out and buy some then. I've got quite a lot of pure Tung Oil, pure turpentine & teak oil in stock but can't find my Danish Oil lol I'll need to youtube this countersink thing to see how to do it. Cheers all for the help. Currently...

    S/steel pegs as small clamps.

AWESOME! I might order some, will be good for when my GIANT clamps from B&Q don't fit when clamping fretwork to a base. Thanks for the share :)

    Need advice for house sign

Okay that's 2 votes for Danish Oil I'll see what more peeps say as I've had a customer tell me the Danish oil went rancid after a few weeks but then the rancid smell went away. The only tools I have are a dremel (for drilling pilot holes for scrolling), the scroll saw itself, a power drill...

    Need advice for house sign

Hey all, This sort of belongs in the scroll saw & finishing section though thought I'd put it in the scroll saw one as I'll be scrolling my project. I've got an order to make a house sign (surname & house number scrolled into it) & since it'll be outside I need some advice on finishing. The...

    facebook

I've actually sold quite a lot through my Facebook page. A lot of my customers are sexually either through email or Facebook. My etsy page has sold 2 things and one was to my aunt. So etsy hasn't really worked out for me. I've even told my customers that I don't mind paying the small fees that...
