    Kitchens and house selling

I am a bit embarassed to admit this but i am/was an estate agent. I deal with lettings mainly now for my sins. Kitchens and bathrooms are the main area to sell a house outside of location. They are considered a major hassle to first time buyers whom are mortgage rich and cash poor. I have sold...

Infill component planes...designed & manufactured by Hol

Wow. They look awesome. All i can say if you like, you can afford it and it makes you happy buy it. I've wasted £1000s on rubbish things like cars which lose 30% of there value when i sat in them the first time. Hobbies don't make sense that is why they are fun. If i can afford one in years...

    Small dovetail

Sadly no space for grinder but many thanks. I am in Nottingham. Had a rematch last night and just took my time with a much smaller chisel. I was suprised when i looked closely at the bevels on the chisels that they aren't really beveled at all it is more like the corners are rounded off. I...

    Small dovetail

I think trying to be clever than i actually am is got me into trouble, again. I made the gap between the tails sockets the width of my chisel (which has a minimum bevel as Alf mentioned) to minimise pfaffing about. This combined with my japanese saw thin kerf means when i am chiseleing out the...

    Small dovetail

Thanks, that make sense as i can angle them in and clear the waste out.

    Small dovetail

I have cut quite a few dovetails before but they have all been with quite large pins. I was attempting last night to cut smaller pins. When i was cutting the tails as i chiseled out the waste my chisel (10mm a two cherries) was squaring up the bottom section of the tail. It appears that the...

    Scrub Plane - Too specialist?

I am no expert but... I ahve a scrub plane and i have been preparing all my wood by hand including a massive piece of oak. The scrub is great and very easy to control. The electric hand planer is naff it does not correct the wind etc and it is all too easy to get a ridge or linkup mark when...

    Ryobi Table saw...

Just to put my ten pence in. I have a festool saw and i have found it really easy to get repeatable cuts. It has done loads of jobs round the house etc. You just have to measure and mark clearly and remember to clamp the rail on sheet goods. I found the idea of a table saw a bit scary and i...

    COMP063 update & enforced layoff

Don't go down the steroid route. I do a bit a fair bit of rock climbing and i have seen far to many horror stories wth steroid injections messing the arm up even worse. I am quite heavy and my tendons are always being tweaked and i had a very bad case of tendonitis in my left elbow and shoulder...

    My workbench (many pictures)

After trawling the web and all the advice on this fantastic site i have finally, nearly, ish completed my workbench. After a slight diversion with a bandsaw (many thanks all) i have taken some snap shots. Please be gentle its my first bench. I am 6ft 2 and hate bending so it is quite tall. I...

    bandsaw still driving me nuts!

I would like to say a big thankyou for everybodies help with me fixing the bandsaw it is now cutting well with no vibrations and i managed to cut a 2mm veneer of four inch pine yesterday(not oak or anything but i am well happy). In the end i had to realign the wheels, apply a new belt (made a...

    bandsaw still driving me nuts!

Tried your test and the wheels appear balanced. Have placed bandsaw on level service (worktop surface on floor) and discovered that the base is somewhat unlevel, to say the least. So after wedging on some battons it appears to stop the vibrations. I think the drive belt is also worn (this is...

    bandsaw still driving me nuts!

Sorry bit confused by what you mean there. If i run the wheels freely i have no problem now. When the stand is on the right bit of floor it does not vibrate i am thinking the stand is not holding the bandsaw as it should be. I think the axmister stand is warped maybe?? :(

    bandsaw still driving me nuts!

Well i have replaced the broken bearings with good quality bearings throughout and reconnected the belt, blade etc. There was a marked improvement, however, the saw was still vibrating. After much fiddling i discover that moving the trolley to different parts of the uneven floor solves the...

    bandsaw still driving me nuts!

I have taken the wheels apart (good fun) and the rear bearing on the lower wheel had the seal broken and the bearings had dust in them. Furthermore the circlip to locate the bearing seemed to be missing. I will pick up some new bearings on manday and see what difference that makes. I have also...
