    Router table choices

One of the major benefits of building your own is you can choose what size you want. I'm a bit short of bench top space so decided on what too many would be an over large top (41" x 25") and whilst I don't often rout large material it's a great secondary worktop, especially for assembly, when...

    Miller dowels?

I too have both :D Managed to get hydraulic lock when gluing one in as they don't appear to have grooves in like dowels. Almost certainly my fault for using too much glue but even so was a bit disappointed it could happen.

The Tuffsaw fan club gets another member!

I'll add another one to the Tuffsaw fan club. Very helpful advice and excellent service. I know where my next blades will be coming from! :D No hesitation in recommending.

    Uses for old bandsaw blades?

Actually I have a brand new blade (one of records 'high quality' blades) that has to be the naffest blade in the world and is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. At least 5 mm out of line and vibrates like a vibrating thing from vibrate town! As a lifelong tight@rse I'm loathe to just...

Does this need a 16 amp supply?

So, - let me try and get this right. Stoady thinks I'll be all right on a 13 amp plug. 9Fingers reckons a 16 amp socket on a 16 amp circuit Startrite say stick a 16 amp socket on a 13 amp circuit. Stoady says that what startrite have said is 'dangerous' (and illegal?). I also don't like the...

Does this need a 16 amp supply?

Startrite's response to my concern: 'The 16 amp should not be a problem on start it will blow a 13 amp fuse but will run below 10 amp, you should just be able to replace your 3 pin socket with a blue 16 amp' Not sure it's a solution, - would just appear to bypass the fuse issue. Any thoughts...

Does this need a 16 amp supply?

Thanks Bob, By 'borderline' do you mean that it's just a case of it might or it might not? And if it does it might one day just decide not too? I'm close to the house and the CU isn't far from the saw so I might be lucky (yeah right!). Guess I'll have to fit a blade and see what happens. If...

Does this need a 16 amp supply?

Just purchased one of these: http://www.startrite.co.uk/index.php?se ... f=Bandsaw# Click on the specification tab on the left. Came with a 16 amp plug on the end and this caused me minor palpitations as I suspect my supply probably isn't up to it. No previous mention in any of the blurb that...

Steve Maskery The Complete Bandsaw Workshop Essentials 4+5

Oh deep joy, - I've just bought a 352 but because it didn't have a blade I haven't yet been able to set up the guides etc. I also have a couple of (minor) parts missing and am waiting for Startrite to get back to me. Are you suggesting the thrust guide is inadequate or just the instructions...

    Yandles Show

I went yesterday for a wander and ended up with a Startrite 352E :D Quite a beast compared to my previous model but disappointingly already discovered a couple of issues that will be subject of a separate post later.

    Which bandsaw?

No particular need for it to be an Axi, - just that they're not that far down the road and I can go and have a fondle  before I buy. Nearly all my work is ripping and resawing which is why the 400 caught my eye. Thanks for the pointer to the Record, - good spec but still nearly £100...

    Which bandsaw?

Time for a new bandsaw and the choice seems to be clear to me: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ax ... ricing=inc But I'm wondering why this one is more expensive yet apparently a lower spec: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ax ... ricing=inc I have had the opportunity to play with...

    Planer Knife Setting Jig

You're probably right Roy but I reckon it needs to be reasonably close or it will ripple? When I first got the P/T the blades were slightly out and there was a most definite ripple. Resetting solved it but it took ages and I was hoping this device would speed the process. Time will tell!

    Planer Knife Setting Jig

Roy, You know I never thought of that very simple fact! I'll have to figure out some way of ensuring TDC otherwise that not so lovely ripple effect will appear.

    Planer Knife Setting Jig

I splashed out today and bought a set of these: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ax ... rod804558/ Yet to use them but hopeful that they'll do the job as I find blade setting a PITA! Should at least hold the blades steady while tightening the lock nuts.

    Was i dreaming?..

I've had one of these cutters for years and simply haven't been able to get on with it. Try as I might the joint has never fitted properly. As someone who always takes smaller cuts with the router table I also find it a bit disconcerting taking what to me are quite large chunks off a bit of...

Corian for a router table top?

What he said only more so!! The rousseau for me is a complete PITA and I can't wait to get rid of mine. I too am interested to hear how the Tufnol works out as its something I'm considering. Just out of interest if I double up on 18mm MDF and use a laminate will I need to balance the back? If...

    Planer blade honing

I suppose 2 questions really. Is it worth doing or is it really just as well to get them properly sharpened? If it is worth doing is this one: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... -22400.htm any good? Thanks Stuart

    Pedestal table WIP - Finished!

Thanks for all the comments. It's very rewarding to have people who I know can turn out some really good work praise what I've done (even if only photos). Olly - yes the finishing does sound like a lot of work when listed like that but in reality it's only a few hours work. It was worth it...

    Anybody watch "The Wood Whisperer"?

I reckon that would be quite an entertaining show!! Sometimes I'm sad enough to use the rewind button on Sky+ and you can clearly see that something he's gluing (and just popped a couple of brads into) isn't lined up square. On the latest series he also seems to have the shakes a bit, - wonder...
