    Planing, do you use pushbocks?

So there you have it, - either follow what Jacob says/does or you can follow what the HSE say as the enforcers/advisers on H&S within the UK. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis17.pdf I know which one I'll follow.

Axminster - the knowledge - a bit naughty

That's not what he said though is it? Even with a smilie there you're misquoting. And common sense isn't all that it's blown up to be so if that's what you're relying on better check the insurance :D

    Mobile workbench - Update

Update, - in the absence of anything else I splashed out and invested in a set. I enlarged the top fixing hole to allow for a coach bolt and used a screw in the bottom hole. Very sturdy and surprisingly easy to move around. I was worried the raising process would be ankle breakingly difficult...

    Mobile workbench - Update

Thanks. My concerns is increasing the fixing size so close to the bottom of the leg. From reading reviews it would appear to need to be as close as 22 mm to the bottom. Not a lot of room for a bolt that close to the edge. I don't want to spend that sort of money and and the bottom of my bench...

    Mobile workbench - Update

Revised workshop layout will be much improved if I can move the bench when required. Like many it's a bit of a beast and in my searching for a solution found these http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-wo ... ors-507151 They appear reasonable but I can't help think that two screws aren't going...

    tumble drier economy

What you need is a smart meter then you can measure exactly what it costs for each type of load :D :D :D

    Non drying floor paint

It's now dry, - took a little over 48 hours to fully dry to a point where I was happy to walk on it. Absolutely no idea why it took so long other than it was old paint and might have 'gone off' a bit. The remainder will be binned rather than go through that again!

Smart Meters. Anyone had one installed? Smart Thermostats?

We've had a smart metre since just after Christmas and have found it useful in monitoring what we spend. Interesting to see what it costs to run specific items for particular time periods. I konw some are paranoid about them but quite frankly I'm really not that bothered.

    Non drying floor paint

Thanks all, - it is s l o w l y drying. I've done what I can to improve ventilation and it appears to be making a difference. I can't get any heat in there due to inability to run any power there so I suspect it may take a few days. This must be chemical reaction otherwise the solvent based...

    Non drying floor paint

The conversion of the garage to workshop continues. Yesterday was paint the floor (well, half of it) day and today was supposed to be finish the wiring day. However, after something like 20 hours the paint still hasn't dried! I clearly can't walk on the floor but I suspect from the degree of...

When the appearance of an ambulance is not welcome!

Which are currently recommending Nextbase 312 GW, - supposed to be quite a good model. Seriously consider a complaint to the local ambulance, - you might find they had a dash cam and it'll show if they were driving like plonkers. I'm afraid of the 3 main emergency services the ambulance...

Table saw act in the USA not passed.

Not the whole of the USA just California which admittedly is one of the weirder states. Really? Well fancy that! :? :? I suspect Americans will continue to demand the right to feed bits of themselves into high speed revolving bits of steel, - it's only constitutional innit? :D

    Scrap Diesel cars

And whilst in remains overall cheaper for me to run my diesel that's what I'll continue to do. However, I suspect the cowardly politicians will simply tax diesels off the road in due course.

    VERY VERY HEAVY engineering

Never really thought about how they built this sort of thing before, - fascinating stuff. thanks for posting. Inching button? Used to be quite a common switch for set up and maintenance.

    insulating a roof

I'm in the process of insulating my garage and have found (currently) that Seconds and Co are only pennies cheaper but then charge £35 for delivery and this effectively makes them more expensive. I understand that celetex (and all the other makes) are broadly twice as effective cm for cm than...

    Trumpy

Sorry Bob, - whilst I'd love to agree with you there is a need to understand just how polarised American politics is. For example, the subject of abortion is completely divisive and I find it difficult to understand how in the second decade of the 21st Century that attitudes can be so backward...

    A&e visits

But it isn't 'sitting in the bank'. The £28.6bn reported in the NHS LA annual report and accounts for 2014/15 (http://www.nhsla.com/aboutus/Documents/ ... 014-15.pdf) is their net liabilities not what they have in the bank. An important difference.

    A&e visits

Not sure what point you're trying to make Roger? The article you linked to showed a large set aside for 'current and future claims' and showed £1.6 bn paid in the last year. This isn't 25% of the budget is it? I seem to remember from my time in local government that the set aside process could...
