    Holiday reading

The Bourne trilogy is indeed far superior as books - the films really do not do them justice. Just a word of warning though - make sure if you buy them as seperate books that you read them in the order they were written. They will make no real sense and have huge spoilers in if you read them out...

    what are these?

You then need only wait two weeks for a copper to be available to go and have a look at that area to see if your car is still there! Isn't technology marvellous! Steve.

    Lets cheer up!!

BMI is indeed the governments preferred measure of the nations health, primarily because it is easy to calculate and interpret. The medical community is currently preferring waist hip ratio, which gives a decimal result. This is considered more difficult for the general population to work out...

Maybe Gordon Brown is'nt that bad !!!!!!!!

Nah, I am a Doc (scientific one anyway) and my workshop is currently a badly lit, cramped and damp cellar. Title does not equal money sadly, but it does equal job satisfaction to a large degree so I guess that makes me Happy  Steve.

    Rounding Over Edges of Patterns

Most of the American sites seem to recommend inflatable drum sanders (not an oxymoron, honest!) but I havent particularly seen them this side of the pond. Not that I have looked that hard though, so they may well exist. Essentially an inflatable sleeve goes inside the sanding spindle and gives...

How would you stop knife crime?

First thing to do is ask WHY they are carrying knives in the first place. Is it for the respect of their contempories? To intimidate, to bolster their own ego, to fit in, to protect? Whatever the consequences of it just locking up carriers will not stop it - you need to address the why. Any of...

Do you let your kids use mobiles(cell phones)?

Actually, you are talking about natural selection rather than evolution. Evolution is simply a change in gene frequency in a population, it is natural selection which determines whether that change is harmful or beneficial and thus enables an organism to survive to produce off spring or die...

You can always spot the new starter

Whats even better is I suspect both players were up and back on the pitch 30 seconds after being stretchered off  Steve.

    Laptop recommendations

Sony Vaio - light, cute, powerful and recommended by our IT department at work. Only downside is they are expensive. The only other laptops they recommend is Toshiba. Strangely they do not favour Dell laptops despite Dell being a preferred supplier for desktops. Steve.

    Alcohol Squads

To have rigerously tested science you must first have a defined hypothesis that can be tested. As my post above stated, it is not a lack of data that is the problem, its what question you are actually trying to address with it. Steve.

    Alcohol Squads

Sorry, I was using alcohol in a generic sense there to mean an alcoholic drink (figures are for a pint of beer) rather than alcohol in the sense of pure ethanol. Steve.

    Alcohol Squads

Sorry Gill, I am going to have to respond to that one! It really depends on how you define safety and what your risks are, coupled with the time scale over which you are talking. For example the obvious safe limit is the drink drive limit. This is the point above which you start to become...

Another Use For A Sewing Machine

Some very nice marquetry examples there Gill. How does the adaptation of a sewing machine better the use of a scroll saw? As far as I can tell you still guide the sample through a blade so I am not really sure of the purpose of it? I haven't done any marquetry, but do scrollsaw blades not cut...

    Bought a new toy.......Axminster AWFS18

Well, I managed to get down the cellar over the weekend and my AWFS18 is already set for a 20mm stroke. Since I bought it as a return from Axminster at one of their sales I have no idea whether it was factory done and supplied this way or the previous owner changed it over. Looking at the hole...

    More problems for Silverstone

 Slow or stationary traffic - that's Lewis Hamiltons weekend knackered again then! Steve.

I'm going to be a Daddy!

Indeed, congratulations. First 20 years are apparently the worst - then they tend to forget you exist! Steve.

    Bought a new toy.......Axminster AWFS18

Brilliant, thanks Alan - I will have a go at changing the cam lever over to a 20mm stroke length this evening :D Steve.

    Bought a new toy.......Axminster AWFS18

Hi Alan, Not sure why you say the switch is a problem and fiddly - did your AWFS18 not come with the top mounted NVR switch? Personally I found the top mounted switch a complete pain and simply bypassed it but it is an option if you like up there in your face switches! Axminster state that it...

    Part P 'get out'?

Hmm, to be honest Roger I think in a court of law (assuming a problem got that far) you would lose. Two reasons for that: Can you prove you are competent - do you have the experience (in terms of past work done and inspected) and or certificates to prove this? Secondly, do you have all the...
