Probably 'cos they feel safe from getting heckled by some of our more ......... vociferous brethren

What tool did you buy today?

They are excellent runners. Lots of adjustment and very smooth self close action. They can be fitted without the jig but if you talk nice to the Blum rep they let you have the jigs for next to nothing and it speeds up fitting no-end. The problem is that they are very unforgiving when it comes...

    Souber lock morticer jig

+1. The Souber jig is definitely a money maker (if you're on a price with a decent number of doors to hang) I bought mine when I was fitting out a small hotel in Marylebone. 65 fire doors to hang - it was a life saver.

What tool did you buy today?

What make did you buy. Up until now I've been fitting Blum Movento runners and using the Blum jigs but I'm interested in a lower cost alternative.

The Garret Wade one looks a lot like the Rutlands one i already have. Couldn't find the Tilgear one. The one on Amazon is the same as the Rutlands one. Woodpecker Tools have a video on Youtube for their version (much more modern - looks quite precise) but can't find it on their website.

    Chisel primary bevel sharpening.

Jacob, if I ask for help using a jig and your reply is to stop using it you're not being helpful. You're being arrogant in assuming that I haven't considered my options and chosen to use a jig for whatever reason. The reason is none of your business. If you don't have an answer that would help...

    Chisel primary bevel sharpening.

Well said. I use jigs (sometimes) and don't really care if anyone else thinks I shouldn't. What I do care about is that it becomes a bit nerve racking when you want to ask a jig related question. It's highly likely that if I asked whether people who use one could recommend for example the...

    No. 1 Odd Jobs

When I started my 'apprenticeship' many moons ago my grandfather gave me one of these, a Stanley version. It was an excellent little tool that I grew to love and it was a permanent fixture in my pocket at work, either on site or in the workshop. Of course the inevitable happened - on site one...

Do you periodically clean your 3M respirator? You should!

I just went and had a look at mine - I haven't worn it for about two months. It now harbours intelligent life forms!!! Bloody Hell!! Thanks for that - I would have just put it on without looking next time I did a bit of routing or sanding. Oooer!!

    Timber Prices

To my shame I've never really had a good handle on timber prices (joinery Hardwoods) and have always gone by what 'felt ok'. I know that's pretty stupid for someone who is in business but there we go. Anyway, a sleepless night (back pain....grrrr) left me prowling around trying to find...

Not sure if anyones already suggested this but making the current vids available as (chargeable) downloads would be a start. It would require some work to re-rip them or whatever it's called into MP4 format or whatever, but nonetheless would only use overnight processor time once the format is...

Best fixing to use screws or just glue? (see picture)

Good glue and clamps ought to be fine I'd have thought. It's not going to get much 'action' is it?
