we haven't had any jokes on here for a while !

Well, yuou are continuing the trend of no jokes for a while then   Bloke walkes into a pub with his pet giraffe and orders a pint each. The barman is surprised but serves them. They are in there all the evening and after several refills the giraffe colapses in a heap...

    3 ply..

Ta for the comments folks. It certainly has got attitude for ply!! You can see one small dark patch on it. That was the only void in it so I stuffed hard it with fine shavings, dropped a few drops of runny cyano onto it, let it dry and sanded it down. Even close up it looks good!!

    3 ply..

A week or so back I realised that I was going to have to do some repairs on a couple of our window shutters. So along to our local wood supplier, Audoise d'Bois, and got what the French call trois ply for the horizontal and diagonal battons. It's ply with attitude, 3 ply at 1 1/4" thick!. After...

    Curtain rings

Wildman, I was given a set of about 8 of that type of chuck by a very good friend. Box wood with bronze ferruls and tightening rings. They are about 150 years old and still perfect for that type of job, but I had to make a bigger versoin for that job. Dead easy to make and very effective as it...

    Curtain rings

In our case the idea of buying them wasn't an option. When we finally sourced the 2" poles the only ones we could find would have cost us over £180 for a single 2.5 metre length and we need 2! The rings? Why have a mortgage when I could make them for a few €€€s Then add the shipping from the...

    Curtain rings

I had to turn a comlete set of poles, end fittings and rings for our 5 metre wide window. The poles are 2" diameter and 2 at 2.5 metres long. 40 rings with a 2 3/4" internal dia. The reason was that the heavy curtains SWMBO made caused the biggest poles we could find to sag! I turned the rings...

New Member, needs advice on Band saw cutting depths

I'll go 2s up with the Startrite saw. I have had the baby of the line, 301S, for about 20 years now and it's as good now as when I got it. It will cut up to 8" thick and had a 12" throat and that's plenty good enough for what I do. I only ever use a 1/4" 6 skip blade in mine and as I said, that...

    Now THAT'S policing :)

The American and archaic British usage of the verb conjugates as get-got-gotten or as get-got-got depending on the meaning, whereas the modern British usage of the verb has largely lost this distinction and conjugates as get-got-got in most cases except, sometimes, where the speaker wants to...
