How to cover/clad RSJ and valley beam too ?

You only need to fire protect structure supporting an upper floor, if its the roof then no need. If it is supporting an upper floor then plasterboard is without doubt the cheapest way of achieving the fire rating- 2 X 15mm boards will give you one hour. Ed

    Layout Lines

Not trying to start a fight (honest  ) although I do know this topic can polarise opinion. It was Chris Schwarz's latest blog that got me thinking; http://blog.woodworking-magazine.com/bl ... +Mark.aspx Personally I have both removed and left layout lines and don't subscribe to a strong...

    Axminster in Nuneaton

It did, although its moved from the shop in Millers Dale to an industrial unit in Bradwell. I definitely don't think thats anything to do with Rutlands/Tabwell/Uppertown/Toolbay... Ed

    Axminster in Nuneaton

It does seem unlikely to be coincidence for a small town like that to have 2 specialist woodworking retailers, having said that I don't know of a connection. Ed

    Axminster in Nuneaton

Yes thats the one, although it used to be on the other side of the road. No shop to visit at Rutlands, its just a mail order office and warehouse. Ed

I do remember Tabwell Tools - at one time they had 3 shops in Bakewell within about 300 yards of each other, which I never really understood. I didn't realise they had shops elsewhere as well. Excellent selection of stuff though. I believe the guy who owned that went on to start Toolbay.net...

    Buying wood over the internet

I've bought twice from SL Hardwoods, with 2 quite different experiences. First time was 1" American Black Walnut and was fine. I used it in a project for F&C and mentioned that SL were good in the article. Second time was 1" and 2" American White Oak. The 1" was OK, but the 2" was appalling -...

    F&C

Not seen F&C for a while, I finished my subscription a couple of years ago as I was finding the mag repetitive, subjective and superficial. Occasionally I pick one up in WHSmiths and within a couple of minutes of flicking through I confirm that I don't need to start buying it again any time...

For Sale : Veritas Bevel Up Smoother

I followed Dereks advice as a result of this thread; https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... ul&start=0 and now find my LAJ and BUS the most versatile planes I own. The very high angles have tackled everything I ever throw at them. Personally I would keep it Aled, although I appreciate...

    RIP James Krenov

I found his work a great inspiration. On the one hand its sad, but on the other hand you can reflect on a great life. I wonder how many of us will leave a comparable legacy and have influenced so many people when we pass on... Cheers, Ed
