    The inevitable has happened...

I reckon the key to easy shellac application is to use a very thin mix, a la David Charlesworth. This way there is such a small build up of finish per coat that it blends very easily. I imagine that the thicker the polish the more difficult it is to get the track marks out, although the finish...

    2009 Handtool Secret Santa

I have assembled all the ingredients for mine, just need to get with the making... Ed

    Ed's new toolbox

I'm not sure I even know what that means, but I know I wouldn't want to walk far carrying this, even with 2 hands! Ed

    Got a commission!

I think there is some talking at cross purposes here. The depth of recess I was referring to was how far the hinge sticks out the back, front to back, not how deep it was chopped in. You can chop it in deep enough so there is no gap - what appears to be a gap on the box I showed is a small...

    Got a commission!

I have used JB-102's a few times. The furthest you can recess them in is to the centre line of the pin, I went slightly less on this one; Hope that helps, Ed

    Axninister latest mag

I thought the saw horse price was outrageous for what it was, not Axminsters normal style. Ed

    Another Workshop tour.

Very tidy Steve. What sort of stuff will you be making in there - something of fairly compact dimensions I presume? Ed

    CamVac query ...

I took the caps off mine, as its under the outfeed table, so no risk of anything falling down the outlet. I am sure its quieter without the caps so you're probably better off. Anyway, I'm probably being dense here but why would it blow more if there was a blockage. If there was, and its sucking...

    A little gloat!

    A little gloat!

Well I see it mainly as a novelty that may have occasional uses. Ed

    Dionysus Desk(s) W I P. Completed

I quite like the sound of your workload - decking jobs, bits of furniture ; its a nice varied combination. Better than cocking around building supermarkets which is what I'm doing at the moment. Hey Ho. (Project looks good as well) Ed

    A little gloat!

I couldn't resist and ordered mine last Friday, shipped yesterday. Any idea how long it took via UPS from when it shipped to when it arrived? Ed

Workshop Design - well it's a build really.

You're just playing at laying concrete slabs here lads - this is the slab I did today (well I say 'did' I mainly point and wave my arms and other people do it...) just over 200M3; Telescopic 360 degree laser screeding machine - thats the way to level a slab...might not have fitted in your...

    Brother's Birthday present

I really like that - the design has a nice simplicity to it. Nice to see a garden bench with modern design ideas for a change. Ed

    Levelling a slab

If you're worried about moisture affecting it you can use 5 star grout instead. Ed

    Ed's new toolbox

Well thats lateral thinking on the need for a toolbox! I'd made the mental step to the need for a 'better toolbox' but not designing out the toolbox altogether. Karl...the thinking mans toolbox  Ed
