    Joke

Not sure whether we are still allowed to tell Irish jokes, but here goes anyway! Irish Virginity Test Kit Paddy is planning to marry, he is, and asks his family doctor how he could tell if his bride-to-be is still a virgin. His doctor says, "Aye, Paddy, all Irish use three things for what we...

    Quarter Sawn Oak Supplier

Hmm. I played around with their "instant quote" system for some 3 lengths of 50mm x 200mm x 1800mm PAR ( 2" x 8" x 6' ), and it worked out at £347 for 2 cubic ft. Definitely a "measure twice and cut once " job.

    AP Media Unit...WIP

Thanks - that makes sense. .... and 40mm English oak would cost an arm and leg, even if you can find some that is shake free. Great - looking forward to the reports. BTW, just read your blog. You're just going to love retirement. I got it 2 years ago and the novelty still hasn't worn off!

    AP Media Unit...WIP

This is shaping up really nicely Rob. I love those triangular joints and feel very intimidated by the quality of the fit. Lots of ideas here for a similar project I have planned for next winter in English Oak. A few questions if I may. Is the use of a vacuum press essential for this type of...

    Face Masks

Yep - me too. I find the disposables leak around the bridge of my nose and the exhaled air fogs my glasses - just what you need when doing something intricate on the router table. The AirAce directs exhaled air downwards thru a valve in the base of the mask leaving your glasses crystal...

Girlfriend's Storage Unit for Chelsea Flower Show. (Pics).

That looks really nice, and a serious amount of work. Based on photo 13, I'm not sure we want to see what sort of tool will go on your tool shelf! :D

    Bye bye

I remember when they eventually allowed Kenny Everitt back on BBC TV, on his first appearance he beamed at the camera and said something along the lines of "Well it's jolly nice to be back on the dear old Beeb, and the producer has said that I'll be fine so long as I don't say the word "pubes""...

    kitchen lights and extraction

Our kitchen is quite dark and uses 8 x 50w halogen spots, a 100w down light over the breakfast bar plus 3 x under unit fluorescent tubes. Trouble is that this burns 545 watts at a cost of over £250 per year. So replaced with these LEDs. They burn 4.5w each and although a bit pricey, they will...

    What's ON Tv?

She was brilliant on Question Time a couple of weeks back. Spoke great sense and with good humour. On one question one of the men thought they had a viable alternative view, and just for a moment she flannelled, then spotted the flaw in his argument - put it across with great eloquence, and...

    Wood eye ?

Yep - I don't see how they got away with an unsightly erection like that in a park. Sorry - a bit of a limp gag!

    The economy must be good.

I don't think so DW. Gold has quadrupled in price since Gordon successfully sold out at the bottom of the market. I always use his decisions as a contrary indicator. So when DufGov bought a bank (N. Rock) my guess was that as the government had bought a bank the timing decision was probably...

    VED - Road Tax

According to Parkers, SWMBOs Toyota Yaris 1.3 will pay £10 less, and my Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI will cost £5 more. So for once I'm not fussed.

Bugger me interest rates are still on hold.

I don't actually disagree with this too much. After all, why should struggling young families pay more tax to protect someone elses inheritance? My main point here is that the needs of the elderly to be able to generate some income from their hard earned capital has been completely thrown to the...

Bugger me interest rates are still on hold.

I don't normally respond to these threads, but I'm with DW here. People who plan their retirement and build up savings to fund it are finding that their income has been cut by about 70% over the last 2 years. The financially profligate who have been baled out from over borrowing and who now...

    The News at Bedtime

Anyone listening to this? 11:15pm on Wednesday evenings with Jack Dee and Peter Capaldi, and written by Ian Hislop. Clever hilarious stuff. Just 15 mins of intelligent comedy without relying on shock tactics or tedious foul language and with no laughter track. Listen again here. Fast forward...

    Tropical Cumbria!

Mark - I had something similar happen on my previous car - a Mk 5 Golf. Outside air temp used to cycle down to about -80C and the climate control used to ramp up to compensate. Sorted under warranty.
