    Any Battle of Britain enthusiasts?

Quite possibly - we're expendable down here. :D Sonic booms at altitude carry a long way depending on wind and atmospheric conditions. In the mid 1970s when I was training on Folland Gnats from RAF Valley on Anglesey we used to do supersonic runs down the Irish Sea. The Gnat was...

    Any Battle of Britain enthusiasts?

It certainly did. Living on the south Devon coast, we used to hear a distant double boom every night at about 9.10pm as Concorde came up the Western Approaches. No broken windows or demonstrating pheasants - but it was a useful time check. Some nights it was much louder than others depending...

    light hearted

If at first you don't succeed, tell yourself there is no need. The boy stood on the burning deck, his pocket full of crackers. A spark flew up his trouser leg and blasted off his n*****s. Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pieman, "What have you got there?"...

Cutting decorative cornices in English Oak - help please.

Guys - thank you so much for all your ideas. I only need about 5 ft of cornice so not inclined to invest in expensive specialist cutters that I may not use again. I'm tempted to go to the workshop that made the unit with the cornice I'm trying to copy and just pay them to produce a another...

Cutting decorative cornices in English Oak - help please.

I'm about to build a traditional bookcase in English Oak (there will be a WIP thread with piccies) but one thing that is puzzling me is how to create a cornice. I would like something similar to this.......... ...... which is on an existing piece of furniture. The dentition and rounded part...

Removing spent batteries from a mini-maglite torch

I use a Petzl LED headtorch. Very bright, batteries seem to last for ever, and leaves your hands free for holding the dog's lead, or for climbing around in the loft, or for doing anything where you want your hands free - even reading in bed when camping in the wild. Wouldn't be without one...

    Do I really need a 20amp supply?

Aaaggghhh! No! Travelling from Plymouth, Axminster would be on the way! Get thee behind me temptation! :D:D PM to follow.

    Do I really need a 20amp supply?

Interesting. I've just been ferreting about around the fuse box and 13amp sockets. I have a 2.5mm ring feeding two double 13amp sockets, one of which is in a position where it is never used. This is just for the garage. The fuse holder shows 240volt 30 amp. Not sure whether it is in fact 30 amp...

    Do I really need a 20amp supply?

I'm thinking of buying a bandsaw that Axminster says requires a 16amp supply. This is the Axminster Plus AP4300T/1 which is rated at 1500W (6amps), or the Jet JWBS-16 MK2 rated at 1900W input (8 amps), 1100w output, for which Axminster recommends a 20 amp supply. The only other piece of kit...

Oh no! Another request for bandsaw advice thread.

Any crumbs of advice to offer on this part of my original post please? Is the 352 really worth over £500 s/h or at that price should I be looking at alternatives? Not sure I want to pay much more than £500 for a s/h machine, but could be persuaded to go a little higher for new.

Oh no! Another request for bandsaw advice thread.

I must say the Hammerlooks impressive. Currently cheaper than its Axminster clone as well. Hmmm! How could I smuggle one of these into the workshop unseen?

Oh no! Another request for bandsaw advice thread.

I thought about adding this to an existing bandsaw thread, but didn't want to hijack someone elses plea for help. I have 25 cu ft of lovely English Oak in 1" sawn planks to turn in to furniture. These end up as 7/8ths when planed for short lengths, but only 3/4 for longer lengths - maybe...

    Alan Peters (style) Media Unit...finished

Lovely work - and with a finish to match. Personally, I really like those contrasting handles - they compliment the colour of the rest of the piece to my eye at least.

    Side Table - Finished Photos

Another lovely piece of work Olly. Many thanks for the detailed write up and for all the "warts 'n all" photos that make it so informative. I have 4 very nice Golden Ash boards that are looking for a project - this has given me some great inspiration. Goes very nicely with the English Oak too!

Another happy AirAce user here. Better than any of the disposables I tried.

    Driver demographics

OK. I'm not afraid to say it. WOMEN. They do not understand the concept of merging in turn when 2 lanes become one, and would rather you had an accident than let you in. They just stare straight ahead in a fixed gaze and deny your very existence. I used to drive 30,000 miles a year and it...

    Alan Peters (style) Media Unit...finished

Inspiring stuff Rob. Lots of ideas that I can plagiarise there. I particularly like those sword tip tenons. Very exacting works because any errors would have stood out like the dog's proverbials. Please post a photo when complete with smoked glass etc. Just trying to work out how to do a...

    Anyone been to Tuscany?

Lucky you! You can't really go wrong. We had a week staying here. Very highly recommended. Siena, Florence, Voltarra, and San Gimignano all worth a visit. Also if you are near the walled village of Monteriggioni in the evening, one of the restaurants in the castle square is a really...
