I was having a coffee this morning near a particularly difficult junction. Difficult in that it needs a lot of give and take by drivers from all directions to let people out etc for the junction to flow smoothly. As I sipped my espresso I idly monitored the various demographics of driver to see if there was any difference in attitude and helpfulness.

Surprisingly a wide range...all types from Mondeo man to OAPs to boy racers, white van man to lorries etc. Numbers were pretty equal across all groups.

There was one demographic group that stood out as, without fail, they never gave way, never let anyone out, never gave any consideration whatsoever to other road users.

Anyone care to give a guess ?

I think you might have let the cat out of the bag!

Ooh you are big tease, Roger :)

PS My guess is Irresponsible Cyclists (as opposed to responsible ones, with whom I have no contention).

OK. I'm not afraid to say it. WOMEN. They do not understand the concept of merging in turn when 2 lanes become one, and would rather you had an accident than let you in. They just stare straight ahead in a fixed gaze and deny your very existence. I used to drive 30,000 miles a year and it stood out like a DBs.

Mike C has got it spot on.

Mums taking their offspring to school. Not one. Nada. Zero. Had the courtesy to let anyone else out, go first, whatever.

It does not surprise me Roger :D When various mum's came around to pick our son up, they were so flustered and in a rush you would have thought that the end of the world was nigh

in my experience the best / most courteous drivers on the road are lorry drivers

I don't know about best drivers, but IMHO and I can only speak as I find, more lorry drivers give way to me, or any car I have been driven in, then any other type of driver. Do I just notice them because of the size of the vehicle?, maybe, but there certainly is a lot that stop to let me out.

Cheers

Mike

I'd agree with that - maybe it's because they effectively control the traffic flow due he the size of vehicle?

Their 56MPH races on dual carriageways are very annoying though...

Would it be drivers of a certain German made car (that never seem to have working indicators)?

John

PHEW - Thought you were talking about my beloved motor then  'cept mine does have indicators and I (think) I'm courteous  (I assume starts with B not A or M  )

Couldn't have been any other
