External Bi-Fold doors - some advice please!

Welcome to the forum renmos. Thanks for the input. I actually went ahead with the top hung Centor E3 gear and built the doors in 3 laminations of iroko as described in this thread. Two years on they are working as well as on the day they were installed and I haven't had to make any...

    Women drivers

The one that gets my goat down here in rural Devon is either not being able to reverse, or understand the nature of bottlenecks. A couple of weeks back I was on my way to the dump with a trailer full of rubbish when I met one of the "twinset and pearls" brigade coming down the lane. I was in...

    Women drivers

+1. Nor do they understand the concept of "merging in turn" when 2 lanes become one. They stare straight ahead, determined not to establish eye contact. I'm sure some would rather cause an accident than let someone in.

    Bandsaw drift

I held back from buying Steve's DVDs for ages. False economy. Just do it. Your bandsaw will sing with happiness as it cuts dead straight!

A quickie on festool guide rails

.............. or if the budget has already been blown, the Makita clamps fit the Fessie rails just fine. Less than 1/3rd price of the Festool Quick Clamps.

    Thermostats

We use Drayton Digistat RF1 and they haven't missed a beat in the 6 years we've had them. Easy to use and install and batteries last forever.

E Petition to stop the air ambulance paying VAT on fuel

VAT on fuel for air ambulances removed in yesterdays budget, at least partially due to pressure from from the public, according to Osborne. Hooray! Democracy in action, and we played our part on this forum, which is more than can be said for the woodhaven where the mods immediately deleted my...

External Folding Sliding (Bifold) Doors - loads of WIP pics

Nice job Pete. I think the Centor running gear would have been completely OTT in this situation. I don't know how heavy each of those single glazed windows will be, but it will only be a fraction of the 45kgs/100lbs that a double glazed door will be. Looks good, and satisfying to engineer...

External iroko - Osmo UV Oil or Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus

Getting a bit scruffier! Now nearly 2 years old - including 2 summers. The section of the left which is just 3 coats of UV oil is showing severe breakdown along the top of the specimen, and it's starting to show signs of grey along the front as well. The centre section, which is one...

    Dementia Test

:D I can relate to that. If I ever need a Stannah Stairlift I'm going for the high speed version so that I get upstairs in time to still remember why it is I've gone up there.

    The cold sell!

That implies that the gas has leaked out. If the fridge is regassed it may be OK, but if there is a leak the problem will keep recurring! Get him to check for leaks and ensure that the retailer is told that if there is a leak you will want a replacement fridge - not a repair.

    RIP John Fortune

RIP John Fortune who died today. His interviews with "George Parr" aka John Bird were amongst my favourite viewing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-oIMJMGd1Q Love this one from October 2007, broadcast during the week the financial crash really got going.

Advice reqd. Executor of will and non co-operative relative

Don't confuse being beneficiary with being executor. My understanding is that you can name anyone you like, usually with their agreement, to be executor. The executors role is just to ensure that the estate is distributed in accordance with the terms of the will, and the family cannot...

Something else to while away the time !

My first car was a 1958 Austin A35 and there are still 1651on the road, scarcely changed in the last 18 yrs. My 2nd was a 1972 Vauxhall Chevette, and there are only 5 left. Draw your own conclusions.

    Under Floor Heating

A good point Bern. We do have a bypass in the system, but would only expect it to be used in the event that there is a failure elsewhere. All zones, including the radiators, hot water and the under floor heating are controlled by a programmer which opens/closes a zone valve so that in the event...

    Under Floor Heating

Greg - it's pretty much as mentioned by jimmy-s. We have a Polypipe setback programmer which is set for 17.5 deg during the day and 15 deg at night. The timer calls for the daytime temperature at 06.30 and is on for about 2 1/2 hours, or until the temperature exceeds 17.5 deg. We find that...
