    dust extraction

If there are no or small amounts of shavings, you may be able to use a HPLV system like the Record/Camvac/Yorkleen. If you can seal the underside of the table saw then these would be worth thinking about. They work if they can create an effective vacuum. It will have the flexibility to do both...

    dust extraction

How big is the table saw and bandsaw? Do you intend to buy a planer/thicknesser? As for the power tools hoover life is easier with an extractor with a built in power point otherwise switching both on quickly gets boring.

    Scribing Gouges On Axminster

The Victor ones seem OK, I looked at them once when I was in the shop. The other choices are http://www.toolnut.co.uk/products/chisels/gouges or second hand. I picked up a full set of seven for not much more second hand but hardly used.

Do I really need a router?

Yes you can make things without a noisy router, but I would not want to be with out my router (Alright 5 routers). No doubt for some small furniture you can do the job by hand quicker than you can set up the router. But equally there are jobs that you have to ask why you would want to do it by...

Spindle Moulder Scribe And Mould Cutters

Making your own scribing cutters is not an easy job and usually involves trial and error and also requires you to have a good knowledge of cutter design and structural engineering. You do not want the tip of a scribing cutter breaking. You also have to make the limiters which for scribes is...

Lack of love for the DW625EK

If price is no problem then: Festool Bosch hitachi others The flat spot is to run against a straight edge as Elu worked out that the chances of the base and the cutter having precisely the same centre was zero so the cheaper construction method was to machine a flat reference surface.

    Fan light over door

The curve could be made up in 3 layers of 3 or 4 segments which overlap. But given how slender the section is, it is probably made from 2 or 3 segments that are the full width and joined using a hammerhead joint or handrail bolts. Either way it is hard to explain here you might do best looking...

What dust filtration units are people using?

It is the wrong approach the dust has to go past your nose to get to the filter. Far better to capture as much as possible at source then you do not breath it and the air cleaner is plenty big enough.

    RIP Stay-Set ?

The change to a 1 piece is possibly a retrograde step. No one else was doing the stay set. The new iron has a lip on the front edge so that all the pressure is exerted just back from the cutting edge. This also makes it easier to ensure a tight fit across the width of the blade. No one else...

Is this a sensible way to board out my workshop

The potential problem is interstitial condensation where any moisture in the bricks condenses and then runs down the inside face of the brick. Where would that condensation go? Sadly I cannot remember how to work it out

Best Dust/Chip extractors for small workshop - Advice Please

Jona I understand it is the fine dust unto 1 micron that really kills you. So not a case of counting numbers as total avoidance. As for practices in days gone by. The shop I served my apprenticeship used to cut asbestos sheet into soffit board. The air would be blue!
