First output from the new machine

Hi Chas, Thank you for your comments, i do agree that the smooth lines in turned pieces allow the grain to show well and are not too fussy. Hi Paul, I felt i had taken the bowl as thin as i wanted it but in hindsight I guess it could have been slightly thinner but it was starting to show...

First output from the new machine

Hi Pete and Johnny, I must admit it was strange at first using the Vici because it is so smooth and quiet and makes no fuss about cutting forces it just simple turns with no effort. regarding the oak candle sticks i was thinking along the lines of three of differing heights but I thought i very...

What wood would be suitable...if any?

Pete, There is a joinery company in Hull who produce massive window frames in iroko for the RNLI and the last lot they fitted were that close to the sea they had to put the scaffolding tower on the beach at low tide and really go for it!! Ian

What wood would be suitable...if any?

Hi Pete, How about Green Heart that stands up to constant emersion in sea water or if you can stand the side effects iroko that also withstands sea water. So they might stand up to a 30 degree wash. Regards, Ian

    Busy busy busy

Hi Pete, You have certainly been busy with the crochet hooks, may I ask what woods you use that will remain strong enough at the hook and not splinter. From the photograph there appears to be various different woods. Am I right in thinking the round disks with the two holes are buttons for...

Vici has landed in fine working order

Hi Loz yes the stand is solid but it does need to be with around 140kg sat on it. I had the material on stock so you only want to make it once so its solid!! Hi Johnny with a beast like this a solid steady base makes a great difference. All i need now is to clear a back log engineering job...

    Decorated Ash Bowl- For critique

Morning Johnny, That is a very startling piece and by sounds of your description has been attacked by all the forces of texturing in your arsenal. the vivid colours work well too surrounding the remaining natural centre bowl. Its good to hear you now have the two galleries needing poles apart...

Vici has landed in fine working order

Hi Guys, No excuses for the clean work area that was taken as the installation was nearing completion Chas. Do agree that the nooks and crannies are a bit of a devil to dust off but I have been stood on a few inches of shavings at busy times. Hi Brendan yes the lathe is very long its exactly...

Hi All, When I was fortunate to get the first offer to buy in to Dusty Busker I could hardly believe my luck at securing the lathe I had decided was to be the mainstay of the workshop. Now I, like everyone else like to see plenty of picture in the threads so i have taken some WIP pictures of...

    3 legged carved oak bowl

Hi Johnny, Well I can see you have been making up for lost time with the Proxon. personally I like the top but I feel the legs would have looked better tapered and the underside a little bit slimmer but i do like the effect on the top.
