    Hello from a woodworking wife

Brilliant, if Mohammed won’t go to the mountain etc etc. Good to have you along. Wish my wife would read to me, well she does but it’s more my to do list than anything else ;) Fitz

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Having fixed up the router table and resigned myself that a spindle moulder will be in my future I’ve been cracking on with the sash window. Worked out the parting bead slot and the spiral balance slots and covers. I’m going to finish the slots above the sill to attempt to avoid/minimise...

    Dowel making

I did recently use the drill press and dowel plate to make dowels for drawboring the legs on my workbench, the dowels were indeed a much better finish. I was however limited by the travel of my drill press. I didn't think to try the hand drill as I assumed too much pressure would be needed...

    What is a Tory?

You seem to be dismissing a whole branch of scientific study, with psychologists just stating opinion, wow! Pretty sure there is some well formulated research in to subconscious biases, their formation and impact. Not just a bunch of psychologists sat around making stuff up. Regards women...

    Workbench Build

Thank you that’s very kind. The timber has some lovely grain patterns, it also has quite a few worm holes, so could never be used for anything proper. It’s all been treated so fingers crossed. I’m hoping once the top is flattened and sanded it will look a little more homogeneous as at the...

    What is a Tory?

Much of the theory comes down to unconscious bias and the evolutionary benefit these bring. To solve maths problem takes lots of brain power and hence energy expenditure, if we can simply jump to the answer this takes less effort and energy. Our brains like to generate these shortcuts and...

    Workbench Build

Bench was assembled ‘again’ as I needed the space to build windows. The top needs to be flattened and I’ve not worked out the tail vice yet. The leg vice got a piece of leather on the jaw and has seen some use, I’m loving the action of the vice and the cross works well. Frame was finished in...

Lovely timber and lovely sharp lines on the box you made, especially impressive with wood that can be a little soft.

    Dowel making

For large quantities of regularly sized dowel I buy it, life’s too short. For a few small dowels of odd size I have a dowel plate, a piece of 5mm plate with holes drilled in it from 3mm to 20mm. It works pretty well but is laborious as you have to cut stock square and a touch oversized then bang...

Sourcing a Locknut for Wadkin AGS 10

To be honest I own the same saw and when Deema said there were an inner and outer land I was sceptical. Had to go and take a look to prove myself wrong.

    Renovating a Dining Table

That looks like a great outcome, retained the character and made sound, solid, and functional. Fitz.

    Amazon liquidation pallet

There are a few folks on YouTube who have made videos of buying these kinds of pallets and then opening them up. Thankfully they made some money on the video as they find a few things worth selling on and a cart load of rubbish they then had to deal with.

New top for the router table, the original Triton table top and insert plate have so many lips and lumps that catch and lift the workpiece! Not perfect but significantly better.

    bois Crane spindle shaper

Does it spin fast enough? I was looking at a SIP spindle moulder that came with a router collet and all the reviews said not to bother trying to use it, the max speed of 9000rpm was insufficient for all but the largest router cutters.

    Sagar table saw? 440mm blade?

Really depends on what you want it for, it doesn't tilt and I think trying to use a tilting fence on a table saw is a recipe for disaster. So just for ripping it could be great. 440mm feels like it would need a big motor, so if it's 240V you may need a dedicated circuit, or you may find the...
