Accurate drill-sharpening jig for Sorby Pro-edge?

I gotta take a breath or two. I can barely think that fast much less listen. Pete

    Considering selling up

If you sell as a whole you won't get nearly as much as by selling pieces. The upside of whole is it is done in one. Parts will take longer and you'll have to ship. Your other option is to find a mens shed or turning group and see if they want it all and hope they will pay something for it. Pete

Axminster Workshop AWCIH Cyclone Interceptor Head

Bill Pentz has a calculator that when feed the information about airflow etc will print out the plans to make a good one. I'll warn you though it will likely be at least twice as tall as the Axminster short cone one. It will also work a lot better too...

Advice on running electrics to shed

I'll stand corrected (or sitting at the computer) if wrong but I was taught to never use a coiled cord as it increases the resistance creating heat in the wire coils. Either pull all the cable out of the reel or get a shorter cord instead. Pete

    Ikea Kallax for storage

Bottom shelf sits on the floor. Dividers sit on it. Each shelf sits on the dividers below. Weight transfers through the dividers all the way down to the floor and to the shelf ends that sit on dowels and screws in the sides. The books don't hold anything up since there is space above them and...

    Ikea Kallax for storage

Silly me. I have three of them packed with books and magazines. I can't possibly see how one could overload it unless filling with steel. Pete

    Thoughts on this furniture repair

Masking tape is just stretchy enough to hold a repair like that together while the glue dries. How hard is it to remove the seat from the legs and apron to facilitate the work? Pete

How to seal the metal shed to the base

If it isn't too late you might want to find a place that sells products for the camping RV market. They have sealing tapes and rubberized sealing products they use to seal the top of the trailers (caravans) and motor homes. Not cheap but very effective and fairly long lasting. If you ever have...

Kitchen making and extraction hood height

Builder put mine at just under 800mm above the gas stove, eye level to me and I bang my noggin too often, especially the corners. I'm 6' 2" tall and I wish it were at least 150mm higher. The top of my glasses line up with the hood when I look down at the pans and I don't see it. They should be...

A recommendation for conspiracists/people who understand things the rest of us don't

When I was a little kid there were shows and newscasts showing cloud seeding to get rain to fall in a drought stricken small area. So whats up with people that believe in Chem-trails being a plot against us all? Couch cough. 😂 Pete

    Garage / workshop floor

Look into concrete grinding. Either by a contractor, renting a machine and doing it yourself or buying an import machine and selling it when you are done. Once the floor is flat/smooth enough then you can decide whether to seal it and call it a day or put a floor paint/epoxy coating on it. Pete

    Wolf polisher

If the grinder was exported to be sold here or to some other 60hertz country then it will have had labelling for both. Lots of tools sold here have both on them. Dust collectors for example often have both on them because they are sold here, the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. All made in...

    Veneer press question

If you have a decent sized air compressor and only need it occasionally an Air Venturi Vacuum Pump plus a few fittings will cost less than a dozen cans of beer. It won't quite draw down as much as a proper vacuum pump but definitely a lot more than a shop vacuum or extractor...

Sealing wooden cup for hot liquids

You will have to learn to do Urushi finishes. The Japanese use it on their tea cups and soup bowls. It can also be used for cups etc that hold alcohol. Pete

Will I need 2 chucks? Large and small.

I have lathes with 2 spindle sizes, 1 1/4" and 1". I use Nova chucks for them. A Stronghold chuck for the bigger lathes and a G3 for the smaller ones. While not top of the line chucks (like Vicmarc or Oneway) they are very good and have a huge range of inserts to fit an array of lathes and an...

    Wolf polisher

I'm pretty certain it means that if the grinder is used in the UK where the power is 50Hertz the shaft speed will be 2950rpm. If the power is 60hertz like it is in North America it will be 3350rpm. Pete

Circular Saw for cutting Oak Sleepers - recommendations needed

I agree. You can spend a lot of time making showpiece benches, out feed tables, tool chests and wall hung cabinets but never actually make any nice furniture for the house you live in. My bench was of maple because it was cheap at the time and I had my father (Danish trained) along with all his...

DeWalt Powershop DW1501 Radial Arm Saw - Power Issue

If the wires connections to the switch and motor are secure and the switch hasn't failed then it is possible there is a break in one of the wires. With power disconnected using a multimeter to check each wire while it is moved should show if any are broken. That's what I would do before I went...

    Ebony inlay substitutes.

A couple suggestions. Casting epoxy, dyed black. Dye a less expensive wood like Maple and then inlay it as you would the Ebony. Pete
