    A kind of lazy susan

Quick question. Does purple heart not fade if left unsealed? If so I'd get some finish on there soon or tuck it away from the light in case the UV spoils your excellent handiwork. Gaz

    Incra Wonderfence

Neil, where did you source the thick plastic for the faces of your fence? And does it mill with the router ok? Gaz

    Digital Cameras

Just for info, it was a Fuji camera that the other half bought and I got some 2700mAH NimH batteries to try to sort it out. In the space of one evening wedding receiption the camera was dead. Just as well I took mine as well. (DX6490 10x zoom)

    Digital Cameras

One word of warning. You may find as the LOML did that camera's that take AA batteries (even NiMh) are a pain in the butt. I've had a Kodak DX4300 (or something to that effect) with LiIon battery for years and I can leave it with a full charge for a month or two and still pick it up and use it...

Beginner - Advice on a Fox Midi Lathe F46251

I have not done any turning before but quite fancy making a start. Was looking for a small lathe to start as I only have a single garage as a workshop. Would this lathe be suitable for making a start on pens / knobs / finials and small bowls?

Workshop Footings - Is this gravel?

By the way you can get 1tonne bags from B&Q for about £33. Dunno what the delivery would be. Might be a cheaper option if you are to be pouring a concrete pad and I found that any extra can be used round the footings as hardcore to level the ground.

Joints to be used on garden gate?

Thanks again for the advice. I think I'll go for the draw boring but just use PU glue as I've already got some. Hope the sunshine holds in Scotland I'm a bit of a fair weather DIYer. If the news is anything to go by extreme weather is a bit further south at the moment.

Joints to be used on garden gate?

I am to be making the gate from treated softwood. Will draw boring and pinning be effective in softwood? I am assuming that I understand draw boring. (Holes for sharpened pin are intentionally misaligned so as to further tighten joint) Please correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions. And...

Joints to be used on garden gate?

Quick question. Need to make garden gate and was going to make it with rails (3) and stiles (2). M & T joints. I wanted to fit diagonal braces between rails and wondered how to joint these. Do I incorporate the diagonal into the M & T joints at the corners? Tried to draw a pic on sketchup...

What was the most extravagant tool on sale at Yandles?

You would have thought that a maker of some nice looking planes might be capable of producing a matching dust brush suitably endorsed to match.

And would it be rude to ask how much we are talking about for said exquisite item :?:

I can't remember either. No e-mail history on Outlook Express. Never win anything anyway so it can't be me. :( Gaz

    Blast off

Alf, congrat's on reaching the milestone although I think that the competition and some recent posts may have soured it for you somewhat. Being a relative newcomer and of the persuasion that if I can get a power tool to do the same job I'll have one, you would have thought that the focus of...

    brick laying board??

May be wrong here but is the idea of the holes or groove in the brick not for the mortar to part fill it to give the wall sideways strength? Looking at that video of the brickies tool, it gives a flat top and hence you may well lean against your wall and have it slide sideways.

    hang onto your beech wood!!

Same as a 5.1 surround system when watching a film. Just invested in a 42" Plasma, AV amp and speaker system. Always loved watching films but first film I watched on the new system and I was leaning down to get the remote off the coffee table when a gun shot rang out and I ducked. SWIMBO...

    Bessey Axminster deal

Yep, SWMBO just took delivery of mine today. Asked on the phone "What have you been buying now?" I work offshore you see and I'm not home till tomorrow. I just told her how much of a saving it was and changed the subject. Got away with it too. Especially when I had a box last week too. :oops...

    Carving Seat Contour

Speaking of grinders, there was a guy on the TV that used a 4" grinder with a wheel that looked like a cup with bits out of the rim for shaping wood. It was the guy making the table that looked like a hippo surfacing ie top of head above sheet of glass and body below which gave the support for...
