    From the tables for a flat roof dead load 0.75 to 1.0 kn/m sqd. for maintenance or repair access. good strength timber 50x147 at 450mm span is 2.97m. 50x97 at 400mm will span1.81m so a central support will be required sorry not able to do calcs for this . Me i would go for 2x6 at 16 inch ctrs...

    Electrical work under building notice

    I had the same problem with 13a fuses so i looped in a 16a blue socket fitted a blue plug then changed the mcb on the garage ring to 16 amps. But i would not run the saw with a faulty switch.

    Fuse blowing BS400

    Friction is a factor try turning the wheels by hand and may be reduce tension or increase guide clearance checking blade runs straight true and is turning freely .The motor needs to get moving quick and generate some back emf to reduce current requirement.

    It would be a great shame not to reuse the slates perhaps you could slate the front face and use a man made product/slate for the rear. If you do not use the slates the roofer will just collect them up and sell them. Roofing work is quite easy once the supporting timbers are in place Note also...

    Compressor air line

    Toolstation cat page 42&43 has best most robust type .air line equip is 1/4 inch so start with rubber hose (10m) and order fittings to complete seal with ptfe tape.

    The heat carrying exhaust could be ducted back to the shop via a in line filter (used in air conditioning) so may carry a small amount of fine dust Depending on how good the cyclone was working. Then use a personal positive feed full face mask system and get into a regular habit of cleaning up...

    Starting a workshop

    I agree with big soft moose and think you should put all machines on casters then you can bring the m/c to the work area and connect up to your extraction system which idealy should be housed out side the shop.     Boiler.

    Some boilers have a pump run on to prevent 'heat soak' on a fully pumped system to keep the over temp stat. from operating, a special by pass valve takes the flow. Run on has to be wired in with the boiler controls.
