Compressor states 40amp supply is required?

I think you are correct it will trip the breaker start up current under load is very high for a instant until the motor starts to move . If the feed cable is thick enough then its a breaker uprating job if not then a new feed cable say 2.5mm ( gives 27 extra amps ) in parallel with the existing...

Tuffsaw bandsaw blades a bit long.

I have a similar saw and if i cannot tension the blade as you indicate i put a washer cut in a 'U' in the tension wheel and rod mec. to compensate and readjust.

    Cable

I think the cable needs to carry only 1.6 amps so 2.5sq.mm would be over rated and may be difficult to terminate on the tool. calculations are 1 hp is 746 watts ,watts equals volts x amps plus small round up for type of device powered.

Air Compressor - what to buy?

This is a difficult area, my lplv spray gun needs 22psi and 6.2 cfm so a 2.5 hp 9.5 cfm 24ltr from amazon £80 sould have done the job. But no the compressor is running all the time and the pressure at the gun drops quickly i think the 9.5 cfm is piston displacement not output. The answer was to...

    Dust Extractor Tripping Electrics

I think graduate_owner is correct its a neutral/earth fault .Also check that motor and switch gear is not full of dust. One other possibility is that heat is causing the motor insulation to break down after running for a short time

    16amp Question?

Nice tidy installation you have there i would replace the 40a to sockets with a 20a that should be fine for you requirements then fit the 16a wired from the buss bars in a separate box or expand the existing thus maintaining the protection of the rcd.

    16amp Question?

What no one has mentioned is the 16a plug and socket does not have a fuse, unlike 13a plugs so it needs to be wired directly to a 16a circuit breaker class c fitted to a distribution unit .That in your case can supply up to 40a, so this is a stand alone supply to a 16a socket that will only...

Garden Office Roof - part 2

Have you let the walls move outwards if so release the rafters and pull walls in to plumb with ratchet strap and refix .If they have been cut wrong then you need to add wood to fix. It may be as easy to strip and start again.

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

I note PAC 1 comments and did the same, greatest danger is hot stuff falling on floor and radiation on full out put. A relative who is a fire prevention consultant passed it as OK and i have had no problems .The cheap flu (galv.light metal) will not last.

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

My workshop is quite well insulated but not as well as yours will be, and it preforms as you would expect. heat is retained well and cold does not penetrate that quickly. but there are 24 hours in a day and if its subzero then it will eventually be the same inside, so heat is required and it...

    cheap workbench?

You do not want a bench to rack and move so if the back and ends are filled in and or bench is fixed to shop structure you should be good if that's not possible then you need large sturdy joints.
