SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

Hmm. For some reason the edit button doesn't show in my Post #59 above. The blue font is to show the only real difference between this or other brands of saws.

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

The saws are the equal or better than all comparable saws in their category. Manual in very comprehensive and well illustrated. My observations and opinion. After putting on any fence rails and tables on the bigger saws or removing the packaging on the smaller saws, yes they work straight out...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

The only reason Bosch made the Reaxx was because they lost a court case where an illegal alien worker (an employee) that was ripping flooring without a fence or guards lost a number of fingers. Not their fault the guy used the saw improperly but the court saw otherwise. If they had the safer saw...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

Hasn't the creation of ideas, control by patents, monopolization of the market as a path to riches by any means always been the American way? I bet they use the laws that benefit the corporations and the rich to get out of paying taxes too but there are way too many that do that to be an issue...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

My apologies for misunderstanding your position on safety and operational practices. I have a SawStop and have had it for about 17 years. I understand your stance against them. One correction to your reason C. If you activate the brake and send it to SawStop. They will analyze the chip in it...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

Ed Weber the reason the Europeans don't use the long fence is when ripping solid wood it moves when the stress is relieved when cut. Not all wood does but some will. When the wood does release the tension it pushes against the fence or clamps onto the blade, either way potentially dangerous. The...

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

The red light is only part of the test circuitry. It is not cutting power to the saw. Our flesh has a different resistance to current than wood does. The saw constantly monitors this so if it detects flesh, power is sent to the wire fuse holding the aluminium brake away from the blade. The wire...

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

When the saw has been turned on it goes through a self test and if there is anything wrong, blade gap to brake too far, access panel open, etc it flashes warning lights, the colour and frequency corresponding with the fault. If you want to check all is well as the day progresses, WITH SAW OFF...

Council fined £20k for saw injury - Saw Stop would have prevented this

Proper training and following good practices would have prevented the injury. A SawStop would have mitigated it to a minor cut if there had been a failure to follow the safety practices or some other distraction occurred leading to blade contact. Pete

    To wood Lathe

To use a wood chuck in your lathe put bar stock in your chuck and tread it to match to wood chuck. Mark the bar so when you return it to the lathe there will be minimal if any runout. Or if the metal chuck jaws open enough grab the wood chuck by them. If removal of the compound rest isn't too...

    Copper clad worktops?

Our kitchen has Granite countertops. Hard and nothing seems to etch them...........so far at least......7 years since installed. There are some amazing looking Granites if plain doesn't tickle your designer's fancy but carry an equally amazing price. The Copper will age to a nice patina. Pete

    Petrol Stations

Phasing out IC engines for you and I trying to get to the store or work is not a big problem. The real problem is the amounts of fuel needed to farm, get it to processors and distributors, truck, ship and fly the food to near us and then get it to a store. Same goes for just about every product...

    Vevor tools

Most grinders come with tough wheels made for basic iron/steel grinding like bevelling edges before welding. They have a tough bond so they don't wear easily. Problem with them is they will grind hot and you are more likely to heat the edges of your tool. You want wheels that have a friable bond...

    Choosing a chuck.

My Nova chucks have inserts and they run true. You can always step up to Oneway chucks. They have inserts that are tapered. https://oneway.ca/products-category/adaptors/Oneway-Talon-Adaptors?page=2 They are a higher quality chuck so cost more and I have never heard any complaints about them...

    Choosing a chuck.

Not quite true. Nova does make an insert/adaptor for M33 x 3.5 so you won't need a new chuck. https://www.teknatool.com/products/chuck-accessories/nova-chuck-inserts/nova-i4ns/ Pete
