Cutting the various pieces of wood to size on my usual home made jig.

These are the parts for the various basic box parts.

This will form the drop down part of the writing surface.

This will be the top opening part.

This will be the lower part and part of the writing surface...

.. and this is the three parts before cutting down to size. The upper part will rise to the left of the pic on quadrant hinges and the next section down will drop down to the right on strap hinges to make the writing surface.
Hope that all makes sense.

Maybe the photos are deceptive, but what are the dimensions for that? The timber looks fairly thick. I have always imagined writing slopes being something that you open up on your lap while sitting in a carriage or similar, bit like the modern day briefcase. Is that the idea behind your build or are you going for something larger?

Steve

The timber is half inch thick Steve. I thought they were somewhat smaller till I did some research.
Opened it's 18 inches by 12 so that A4 can be used on the slope.
Timber thickness was determined by the hinges.

Morning Roy, looking good. Further advanced than I have. Thickness is about right. Some may be upto 17/18mm. The thickness does pivot  on the size/type of hinge that you want to use. I'll hope to move on further this week.

I had a head start Malcolm but how long I'll be able to keep it up depends on the weather.
It's a fill in job till I can get started on a roof rebuild.

Here we have the two main parts held together with DS tape and being cut to correct height...

...and the front being machined to the same level.

The uppermost section attached to the main carcase and being machined to size.

Machining the slot for the pen and ink tray front, the tape is to mark the limit of the cut.

The front glued into place and being machined to correct height.

The top fitted on and being machined to receive Beech edge trims. The bottom was treated the same.

Having viewed my previous posts I can see that they may appear somewhat confusing, so I've propped it all together to give a better idea of the overall concept.
An envelope rack will be fitted into the lid as I progress, hopefully!
