Workshop time

Well have managed some workshop time at last finished putting a background colour on a hollow form that went bang.

This is the one that went bang and what shape it is now. And no I did not go through the side a second of loss of attention and I caught the rim.

And while that is drying started another hollow form which I intended to do some carving on but as you can see it does not need anything doing to it other than finishing as I have soaked it in sander sealer as it is punky in places the bottom half has worked now it is turned around I can tomorrow give it a quick run over with a freshly ground tool.

That’s some dramatic looking wood!

Hollow forms are beyond my skill level at the moment, but very interesting.

Shame about the catch. You had those sides very thin.

Yes, the second one I am working on is a little punky so sharp tools are a must as well as stabilising.

I was getting the first hollow form to a nice consistent thickness with plenty of stops and measuring just annoyed with myself for allowing to be distracted for a split second as the hole was not that big

Yes, moment of lack of concentration on what you're doing, for one fraction of a second is all it takes.
The problem is we get cocky and you blink as you're going in or out and "bang!" it's gone.

Progress on the hollow form. This afternoon hollowing completed but still needs sanding under the rim but the homemade sanding tool needs modifying to fit in the opening. Not sure if to put a small lid with a twisted final on it. May just make one and see what it looks like.

Certainly not getting cocky just lack of concentration for a couple of seconds.
