I have a double garage as a workshop. It has three woeful fluorescent strip lights on a dedicated lighting circuit just for the garage workshop - tubes and starters on last legs!
I am looking to replace these three and add more. I have usual machines, tablesaw bandsaw lathe etc. this group has given great product recommendations so looking for product recommendations for the replacement to these strip lights that will illuminate and not cause problems with machinery also the lighting “warmth” that works will in a workshop. Thank you.

I have a separate light on the lathe from one of the two power rings. The replacement to the strip lights will be on the dedicated lighting circuit and will be mains powered. I have three mains power circuits (it’s all single phase) available for machines.

Another option is to replace them with the led version of an appropriate lumens to suit your needs . You might find that you only need 2 if you position them where you most need the light .if you are competent to do this yourself great if not consult a professional electrician.

Definitely +1 for panels over strips. Lack of shadows makes the same overall brightness so much easier to see in.

I've just replaced fluorescent tubes with LED square light panels. £15 from Toolstation. Lovely even light with virtually no shadows.

Hi Brian, do you mind letting us (me) know the shape and size of your workshop and how many panels you used? I’m doing mine soon and it’s always good to get it first hand, I never know how close to the walls to hang lights too. Thanks in anticipation. Ian

+1 for Led panels, give a nice bright consistent light. When I rebuilt workshop had them fitted compared with fluorescent tubes in old workshop and much better. Still useful to have task lighting so have lights on bandsaw, pillar drill etc
I have 12 panels in something approximating a 1.5 car garage

I installed five, two tube LED batten lights in my extended double garage. Bought them from Screwfix, don't recall the specific model but it is like daylight in there, no shadows, and my failing eyesight can see everything.

Power consumption. I have a 10w one wired in on my bandsaw. The 30w ones are blinding. I'll try later to get a photo or two.
Now I've read the spec sheet, I realise I'm an idiot! They look pretty good. If they're mounted at ceiling height do you think they would give a nice light spread? I've got twelve LED cheapo battens in the garage but they are a bit directional and 'shadowy'.

They're cheap enough to put everywhere you need good lighting, the general lighting then becomes secondary.

I have one on the bandsaw, two more over my jeweller's bench (one either side, so no shadow). I have another over the end of my joiner's bench and I have another two to fit to my pillar drills. I'll probably find uses for a couple more.:)

Great idea, think I'll have to try that over my lathes. Maybe make a free standing rig for when I'm working on bikes and cars 🤔.

How are they wired in Phil?
