Hopefully this is the right section for this post...

I'm turning a wee chunk o' my barn into a workshop the noo and the electrics are the main job. What I was wondering is if anybody knew the name for the sockets that get screwed to the wall and have metal pipes running around the workshop with the wiring in 'em? So it's easy to add more. I had the name a wee while ago but it's lost now...

Old style Conduit? currently 20mm Conduit / Boxes are in vogue I believe.

I need some help with the technical lingo.

What is 1 or 2 gang and what is double pole? Also it says 1 way or 2 way for light switches... Any ideas

Need to get in some sockets and whatnot. (I'm not doing the wiring by the way :? )

1 or 2 gang. number of switches
double pole. both live and neutral are 'say' switched
1 way or 2 way for light switches. a make contact two terminals, or a changeover contacts three terminals, used for two or more way switching.

I've already got an electrician, that what I said, I'm not doing the wiring. Just ordering the bits, I'll ask him anyway but thought I'd get a rough idea of what I needed first

Hi Calpol

You just said that you were not doing the wiring, no electrician mentioned.

Any way try and get a Screwfix catalogue, most of the stuff you require is in there. Then have a chat with the electrician.

If you are putting in lights I suggest you do not mount them too high... The electrician that put mine in mounted them on the purlins with the result of a lack of bright light.

I had a look in Screwfix, but Toolstation seems to be cheaper and I'm on a budget! I think everything is in Toolstation as well anyway so one big order should do the trick.

Dunno, see what the 'lectrican says
