We have a ski tunnel as well, its jolly useful thing.

There's a very obliging guy at my local sawmill, who willingly carts all my stuff to the car. I bought three 2metre
lengths of 4 x 2, one day, and he asked me how I was going to cart the stuff without a roof-rack. You should have seen his face when I said. 'No problem. I'll open the boot and you can put it in there!' :D

His eventual summation was. 'Now, that's a B^$#£*g! great idea!'

Good as Gold!' :D

Thanks John,

I'm not too bothered about lumber, as my Honda will convert to estate with the back seats down and the passenger seat lowered there is good space. It's the 8' sheets of plywood that would be the problem. However, that's why Wickes free delivery sounds good. Hope the knee sorts itself out soon.

What part of West Mids are you in?

Hi Alex.

I'm lucky with sheet goods as the supplier I use for that stuff offers a free cutting service. I can either get the sheet broken down into specific parts for a cupboard for instance, or I get them to halve the sheet into 8 x 2s. Up to four of those, clamped to the roof bars with G clamps. is no problem over the half-mile journey home.

I'm in North Birmingham. just over the border into Walsall, near Barr Beacon. Walsall is a great place to live... Yeah... Okay! :(

Cheers John,

I sorted the problem today by going to our local sawmills. They are in Wythall and although IO have lived around the are for yonks, I never bothered to visit. What a helpful lot they are there ( www.daviestimber.co.uk/ ), they have everything one could want, including a shop with all sorts of tools and equipment. I hadn't planned it, but dropped the back seats and passenger seat down and managed to get in two sheets of 8' x 2', plus a load of timber and the boot closed as well. Brought it home and got stuck straight in and finished altering the work surfaces, raising one end that will take the bins, new supports and that just leave the screwin and gluein to do another day. Well pleased with my efforts today and smiles all round from my son.

Absolutely. My father worked there too in the late 1940's. He was on the firewood bundling machine and managed to catch a big pitch pine splinter, which went very bad ways. Dad got the sack because he couldn't work for two weeks!!!

I don't hold that against them, as I don't believe in nose cutting to spite one's own face! I use them only for 'carpentry' jobs, mind, as their hardwood is priced to the gold-standard!

Sykes I find to be just about right, and they deliver from Atherstone free.

Cheers MM

PS I just glimped your profile by the way. We might have been at the same school!

Pheasey primary then Barr Beacon secondary.

Do you get discount at GBS? I get between 10% and 20% depending on who I get to serve me :)
