I have one of the "Corby" lab tables and 4 tops and I want to turn it into a workbench.
The table already racks and I'm not sure how best to fix this issue. First solution would be to take the bench apart, cut grooves in the legs and re-glue with ply panels. My preferred solution would be to run a rebate cutter around the legs, glue inserted ply panels and put "glue doctor" or similar in the joints.
To increase the height I thought an extra plinth fixed to the legs with 1" dowels would be ok. The items in blue are the additions.
I am going to put drawers in the front but have left them out for clarity.
