FRENCH CRAFT MARKET ARDRES PT 1
Not much in the way of arts and crafts show local to me but there has been a steady increase in artisan markets here in france one in a village not far from me called Bois de Ardres. So had an afternoon out on arrival out side A couple of food stalls first was dried ham and sausage seller20241005_150735.jpg20241005_150725.jpg20241005_150715.jpgThe dried sausage was lovely. Next to the entrance was a wagon selling tea coffee hot chocolate and homemade desserts20241005_163147.jpgOnce inside the large hall all the stalls are sprawled out for you to peruse 20241005_163219.jpgHere is the only chap that turned wood and his main product in his turing section were pens.20241005_151556.jpg20241005_151524.jpg20241005_151530.jpgThen there was a bee keeper20241005_152931.jpg20241005_152943.jpg

Funny though no one doing leather products. Stopped at the tea and coffee wagon on the way out for a try of a homemade dessert and a cuppa. Twas an enjoyable afternoon.

This time next week it'll be all over... are you going to regret missing it?
https://londoniwf.co.uk/
Apart from machinery there should be something to please everyone.
It's looking likely I'll be having a table with the William Kendall mother planes on show alongside Bill and Sarah Carter planes.
An unfinished plough plane from the Olivier Sparkes workshop was gifted to raise charitable funds and has been finished by Mr Tim Smith to a comparable standard of high quality, this should be available for your perusal as well.
Apparently it ain't that far from the Sarf of the country..... lol
With a train stop thingy right outside the venue.
Cheers, Andy

Hi Andy, I'm planning on being there, having missed the Extravaganza, I'll try and find you for a chat šŸ™‚

Was a really good open day, didn't get to see Colwyn Way as I didn't realise I needed to book a seat, I did get to see M Saban-Smith do a demo on embellishing and Emma Cook the tiny turner was there selling her kits, axminster had a (disappointingly) small stall with little more than a few gouge sets, Olive er woodturning was present selling tools which is where I got the hollower at 15% off marked price. Lots of club demonstrators on show and then there was the competition hall where there were some amazing pieces, gutted entry was for club members only as I think my interpretation of a flower would have done reasonably well among some of the pieces.
Also managed to pick up a few books I have on my amazon wishlist for a total of Ā£9, then picked up a nice lump of spalted beech, can't for the life of me see why it was reduced to Ā£4 but it's mine now, also a piece of Bolivian cedar just because it looks nice.

Iā€™m going this year. 1st time at a show for a while (and other end of country!). Used to love the Axminster show when they did it, then the Yandles show, stoneligh park, Ally Pally in Jan. Is Harrogate only big show left?

I used to like all the ones you mentioned plus a few more including the one from years back at the NEC Birmingham & the European woodworking at Cressing Temples, I think Harrogate is now the biggest one though thereā€™s the Midlands show in Newark in the spring though itā€™s not on the scale of Harrogate

I know a few of you are planning to go to Harrogate this Friday-Sunday. If you do you'd be very welcome to pop in and say hello at our stall - the Northern School of Woodwork - on Stand 42 at the back of the hall opposite the entrance right in the middle.

It's my first time exhibiting at Harrogate although I've visited as a punter many times. I took over the school around 4 years ago from Chris Tribe (who I suspect a few of you know from here) when he retired. Originally based in Ilkley we got thrown out of our workshop by property developers but I eventually found a really nice workshop in Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley LS28, home of BBCs the Sewing Bee.

(I'm doing a couple of demos on my stall over the days, one of which will be sharpening in a few different ways!!!! I'm bringing along my 2 biggest lads as bouncers for protection when it all kicks off.......)
