That was an eye opener as I never thought about using a gouge on brass. I have done some small bits of brass on mine using scrapers, parting tool and files. Saw handle split nuts and ferrules but nothing that big.

Of course one has to ask the question - How much did that lump of brass cost?
I would guess it is between 3" and 4" diameter, and 6" long, A few hundred quid at least. And how much of it was turned into swarf?
 
I've turned aluminium on mine no worries (a motor turning a chuck is what both are after all lol) it's just the accuracy of what you want to make... (I have seriously been thinking about turning the 'spare parts' machine I have here into a CNC lathe, using the old butchered woodworking lathe as a basis... needs a new motor but the rest is ok...)
