I find more pleasure and it tastes better, a bottle of wine that costs £3.99 than any wine I have ever tasted that cost over £7.

I reckon it the same thing as a Rolex watch which tells the time and a £10 Casio digital it can also tell the time.

So what do you think?

They sell bottles of wine for over £7.00?

A fiver's my limit, and that's only when I'm splashing out!

In my old job (as a chaffeur in France) I tasted some wines that sold for almost £100 a bottle. It did taste better than a £4 bottle but not 25 times better (at least not to my palate...)

BTW, I have been a chauffeur for over 50 years, for my wife. :)

I guess I must have been unlucky DW, despite many years of dedicated research I've yet to find a French wine that I like.

Roy.

I was once told that there is no such thing as a bad wine - some just taste better than others!!
As a connosewer, I can catagorically state that in my opinion expensive wines don't taste that much better than cheaper ones. And you can have 2 bottles of cheap for 1 expensive :D

Cheers

I have got to disagree with that statement, some wines give you a real bad headache, others give you a nasty hairy tongue while some others are just right...having tasted a few myself.
I like the California wines.

I like the California wines.

Would that be the "1 Buck Chuck" selection?

I have to disagree, I have had some expensive wine that was distinctly average, but on the whole if you spend a few more quid and more importantly look for the better vineyards then spending up to a tenner usually gets you a better bottle of wine.

By the way I've never been a big fan of french wines as they can be overpriced and poorly made but I started boycotting them when they boycotted our beef and burned our sheep. On the infrequent occasions when I've lifted the embargo I've been distinctly unimpressed

I always buy 9 to 10 pound wine when it is on half price in Morrisons or Sainsbury's - biggest moan now is that Morrisons have quietly dropped their buy 6 get 5% off offer. There are good wines at 3.99 but generally a 10 pound wine is better

I don't like wine one little bit, i'll stick with a good
bottle of cider. :D
And no "White Lightning" comments please

Well here we go again, most people start out liking dessert wines (sweet ones)then as their pallet changes they start liking dryer wines. now I would like white over red but red is cheaper...Our wines are mostly 15.00 to 30.00 for the most part. They do produce some real good ones but I can`t afford them, special grapes and handleing runs the cost up.I bought a bottle that cost me 38.00 from Sanoma Valley California,I tried it and wasn`t inpressed but my friend had some and said it was the best he ever had....

Wana Try something?

Go and Buy a Chilenean red call "Casillero del Diablo"

is pretty comond in supermarkets yesterday I saw it for £4.99 Buy some Parmesan Chesse some Bread, avoid anything Bitter(I mean like a onion or lemon ) before wine. Open the bottle 30-40min before drink it (To help breath the wine) before you drink you first glass eat some chesse and Bread. when you are ready for the first shoot smeell it smeell it a lot and the then taste the Bloody Thing

I always avoid half price offer in supermarkets, I really think there is a diference beteween a £5 wine and a £9 the problem is you need to know what are your tastes.

if you enjoy the the above test and have the founds  next time repeat it with the above but now after two glasses of the Casillero Try a Lodi

Which cost about £9 an will understand why is more expensive

Anyone see Despatches the other night? Confirmed what me and SWMBO have suspected, namely that many many wines are basically just a chemical mix with up to 50 chemicals added and the dear old EU allows winemakers to get away without putting these on the label.

Many wines give us bad heads and not because of over-consumption. Big name champagne houses are also not above messing about with their wines even to the extent of being allowed to buy in champagne from a co-operative, relabelling it as their own and then charging £30 a bottle!

Given that the cost of wine in a typical £3.99 bottle is about 20p worth, go figure. If you like that sort of stuff, good luck to you!

Andy, this stuff is rocket fuel. 'Cellar of the Devil' indeed
I necked a bottle of this the other night and was completely wrote off
I'm a big fan of Chilean reds :D

Another thought,I was told wild looking at the wine at the vineyard that the white wines are good up till 3 years old and then go down from there, the reds are good up to 10 years....if in a good environment Dark, cool, out of sunlight on there sides. So when you get wine 1/2 off you really are buying it just before it goes bad....I Think, well thats what the guy told me.

Strange stuff ...........wine!

Every year (usually January when the weather here is sh*t) me & SWMBO go to her sister's home in Spain.
Bro in law has a citrus farm and I go out with his men into the feilds and "help"

We all drink from one large bottle (they have a fine nozzle & you let a stream of wine go in your mouth) plus stick of bread & olives. This wine is about 50p a gallon and tastes like nectar.

If you bring the identical stuff back home for drinking it tastes like paint stripper.
